In celebration of Hannes' second birthday today, August 1st, I am sharing photos depicting the evolution of this handsome dog with whom we share our home. Hannes, whose full name is actually "Johannes", was born with completely black fur. Hannes is a Shaded English Cream Long-haired Miniature Dachshund. After a few short weeks, and after opening his eyes, the lighter under-coat began to emerge.

We brought our precious puppy home during Hurricane Ivan, driving to Murray, KY... in the western-most corner of the state. He was just 7 weeks old and weighed barely 2 pounds.

Hannes made himself at home very quickly! It's a good thing he didn't mind being the subject of many photo-sessions that first year!

My constant companion, Hannes makes himself at home in the Quilt Studio.
He and I both agree it's the best room in the house!

Shown here with his full adult coat and "feathering", he is the spitting image if his father, Zeb!
Thinking back, I remember asking the breeder when we picked him up if she would guarantee this coat and she said if he didn't end up with this coloration she would take him back! I can't imagine giving this dog up if he had turned purple with green polka-dots!!

Our days are now filled with happy play and long, quiet naps in my sewing chair while I quilt away the afternoons...

Life is Good!

Happy, happy birthday little buddy,
I can't imagine life without you!!

That's because you preferred the boxes that the toys came in! Ha! Love you, thanks for your help with all of this!
