Humble Thyself...

There's a camp song that we sing, it's begins like this: "Humble thyself in the sight of the Lord, Humble thyself in the sight of the Lord; and He shall lift you up, higher and higher..." I was humming that all the way home from our annual Guild Holiday Potluck dinner in the car last night.

The evening started out just fine. We found our places at decorated tables with snowman inspired centerpieces, and queued up for dinner. As the meal was concluding a few ladies were milling around looking at the various activities that were on display for the evening, there was conversation at our table regarding a certain lady's name. No one could remember, she stood quietly viewing the fabric postcards that were about to be raffled off. I decided to go up and ask her name by introducing myself; most certainly it would be reintroducing myself as I'm sure she's been a member for a while, but what's the harm in that? At least we'd all know.

I jumped up from the table. Here's where the humbling part comes in... I'll pass it along as advice:

If you're ever going to jump up from a table make sure your purse is neatly stowed beneath your chair. If it's not, make sure the strap is folded flat and tucked inside. If it's not, make sure that you don't inadvertently get your foot caught in said strap (with purse attached) because chances are you'll trip and fall flat on the floor! If you do, make sure you're not sitting at the front of the room nearest the speaker's podium and the stage where everyone can see this occur. Most certainly, if that were to happen it could prove to be very embarrassing!

Thank goodness I wasn't wearing a skirt!
Life is Good!

..."and He shall lift you up!"...

The drawing connected to yesterday's 300th post will happen
later this week, feel free to enter by leaving a comment .

You were down and up so quickly I'm not sure anyone (other than those at your table who gave you such a hard time about it) even noticed. Don't let it shake your confidence!

I fell last week, right in front of my employer and one of the guys from the shop. *red face*
So, did you get re-introduced to the lady?

Paula beat me to it...in the end did you know the woman?

With the MS I am getting used to falling...I like to think with all the practice I now am doing it gracefully but...first time out to dinner with my DH's new boss here in England I didn't see the step down leaving the restaurant! I almost took out the entire line of folks waiting at the door and ended up in arms of a very embarrassed British man. (he claimed he played rugby so when I bashed into him it didn't hurt much!)

It was really more of a twist and roll...you popped right back up. Sorry it took us so long to ask if you were ok through all the laughs.

Since you didn't mention any lasting injuries, I am glad you are okay.

May laughter be balm for your wounded pride... rest assured, we've all done something similar (which of course doesn't help a bit when it has just happened to you!).

Hope there are no lasting bruises!

When we were in England a few years ago, we had taken the train back from London to where we were staying, close to my family. The train let us out on the wrong side of the platform from where our car was parked, so we had to cross the tracks by going up a set of stairs, walking across a footbridge, and then descending down the other side. Well, at the top of the stairs, I missed the final step, did a real face-plant on the top landing, and came up all bloody. Meanwhile there was a train load of people behind me trying to get to the car park and all the other people trying to get down the stairs to catch the train pausing at the platform. "Damn Yank!". I was never so embarrassed in my life, not to mention covered with grime and pretty badly scraped from forehead to chin. The topper was the big black eye the next day! Yup, felt absolutely foolish, and having my sister laugh me all the way back to the car didn't help a lot either. ;-) (She did ask me if I was okay before she started cackling though).

I'm glad you're fine, but did you meet that woman?

Oh no! I have the feeling I would be the one to do something like this, AND be wearing a skirt!

Hahaha, I'm sure you handled it with your usual grace and dignity, and hardly anyone even noticed, right?

Oh dear, Mrs. G., I do hope you are suffering no ill effects from the fall! Did you get to 'meet' the person you 'took the tumble' for? :>
