Boys (!?) Will Be Boys

He'd been asked not to throw things in the house, many times. And yet, he continued. He laughed when I scolded him. His aim was accurate, he informed me; and besides, Hannes liked to play fetch! The Christmas tree was taken down and boxed back up for another year. The sofa table reclaimed it's rightful spot and the objets d'art were carefully placed back on top. One precious little figurine had only been there a matter of hours before it was swept off, sent crashing to the floor by way of a "flying" stuffed animal. His aim wasn't accurate this time, but it only takes one time. A quick check of the Internet for a replacement item yielded an shockingly expensive reality check. He won't be throwing things in the house anymore.

Bet HE doesn't think life's so good right now!

The last time Andrew threw something in the house, he was 13 and broke the dining room chandelier. I sent him around the corner to a new Italian restaurant and told him he'd better get a job as a busboy because he had a chandelier to buy. To everyone's surprise, they hired him and within only a couple of months we had a new chandelier! He kept the job and learned a lot, not just about throwing but about the restaurant business. Thanks for the memories . . . .

Oh, my heart would have broken right along with the figurine!

Last winter while home on break, youngest son come home late at night and knocked my Dedham pottery bunny off the table in the front hall. Crash!! It woke me from a sound sleep! I waited till the morning to ask about the damage, knowing that whatever it was wouldn't help me get back to sleep. I was sad, bunny was very expensive to replace, especially for a college student, and YS was really quite remorseful. I know there will be no more throwing of doggie toys in your house now (at least not while you're at home)! ;-)

My favorite line from The Brady Bunch . . . "Mom always says, 'Don't play ball in the house.'"

Sounds familiar!! Maybe he needs lighter weight toys. ;)

But still, better to have enjoyed the piece out for so long instead of having it packed away safely in some box. With Little Boy turning
FIVE in June I am slowly starting to take some things out of boxes and it is nice to see them again - some probably will be broken in the future, but for now I like them!

Cheers!

Years ago...20+ at least...my sons were horsing around and broke the head off of a King from my Precious Moments Nativity set. Oh I was not a happy camper! I can fully recall how UNhappy I was. If Momma Ain't Happy...the whole thing! I had spent a fortune on that set, a fortune we did not have and now a piece was broken. Over time I have learned that things are just that...things. Yes, I love my beautiful things sitting out where I can enjoy them. I think I was the one who learned the bigger lesson. A broken neck wasn't worth the broken hearts...the boys' as well as mine. Now when I get this nativity out I gladly set it out each year with only 2 kings and plenty of lessons learned memories.

Too bad it was at your expense! Hopefully lesson learned though.

Uh oh. I hope someone did get yelled at! I've broken one of my own favorites and glued it back together and there it sits with many chips and cracks, but still loved!
