Getting Crabby

I'm getting crabby, I can't sew in a room that's all torn up for renovations. It will all be well worth it in the long-run; but still, I can't sew in all this mess, and it's taking a toll on my temperament. I'll spend as much time as I can today taping out the trim to prepare for the wall paint, the means to an end! The ceiling is done and looks positively wonderful, I'm basking in all the lovely light. I did set up my serger on the kitchen table the other day to put an edge finish on a fleece baby blanket; it was the only uncluttered flat surface that I could get to, it wasn't ideal but it helped... a little. When I was stitching in the kitchen I gathered some much needed perspective on just how fantastic my normal sewing space truly is. It reminded me of the down-sizing plight of a friend of mine. After her husband retired they downsized homes, and likewise went her large, lovely sewing room. A few years passed, her husband wasn't satisfied with the downsizing they had done, it wasn't enough for him. They did it again, smaller yet. My friend commented : "Well, you know, I started out quilting on a card table and I guess I can go back to that arrangement again...!" Can she? Really?? Could I??? I doubt it. Once that genie's flown from the bottle I don't see how she can be shoved back inside, at least not without making that genie very claustrophobic and plenty crabby! While counting my blessings I am reminded that my non-sewing induced crabiness is, thankfully, a temporary condition!

Life is Good!
Update: For any of you who speculated that the subject of an earlier post, "Boys (!?) Will Be Boys" was Kyle, you were wrong. The "culprit" lovingly presented me with a replacement Hummel last evening. This one's been relegated to the mantel for safety. Thanks, Honey!

Well, I for one was fooled. Was certain it was Kyle.

I hope you at least have a little hand sewing hanging around that you can pick up to quiet the crabbiness . . . .

If not, I can send you some!

I am totally spoiled and would not be happy if I had to give up MCM (sewingroom), would do me in for sure. Your friend is a saint for willingly going back to a card table.

I am keeping an eye on your new sewing room make over. Mine is getting one as well but the work will not begin until next month.

Hurray for a new Hummel!

The return to the new and improved sewing room will be worth it. I bet Turbo has been interested in all the work going on in there!

I thought it was Hannes, doing major tossing of the toys! I did not think there were human hands involved. The crabbyest (is that a word?) will pass when the paint brush has been cleaned and put up until the
next "project".

I actually guessed right, that it was your hubby and not your son... (kind of like things that happen at my house :-)

I SO understand your crabby feelings - there's many a night I get home from work and announce to the cat and whoever else might be within earshot "I NEED MY FABRIC TIME"

All in good time (I aspire to be patient and gracious, but I continue to fall short)...

I was thinking that I would have continued to quilt - just moved the sewing machine elsewhere. You have to have your sewing fix! Great minds think alike!
For the record, I didn't think it was Kyle, I figured it was Mr. Goodneedle.
I've been crabby too, but there hasn't bee any change on my sewing arrangements, well except that the dining room table has had additional Sushi stuff.

I think all of us get a little crabby when our routine is disrupted. And this is always a crabby time of year for me....post-holidays, the cold of winter, and not too many fun things going on. Your new studio is going to be just beautiful and worth the wait!

Gosh, I never thought of anyone else except your DH, too funny! I've had everything from sewing rooms to the kitchen table, but by far my favorite arrangement is a small desk in the corner of the family room... my sewing room I've turned into a very quiet and peaceful "nap" room - one can always dream, LOL!

Cheers!

I was fooled too. I never even considered that Mr. G was the culprit!

I relate to the crabiness. When I was waiting for my new table tops to come in last fall, I was without my sewing room for weeks. I got a lot of hand applique and binding done.

If you need a fix, I have binding I would "sacrifice"!

I am trying to consider moving "Karen's Quilt Shop" from the place where it is. THE KITCHEN?! I do live alone but still it's so unconventional.

But its bright and sunshiny and I can watch the dogs outside, cook and quilt all at once. I dont know if this genie could fit in the back bedroom.

I imagine crabiness myself!

I hope you are back in your sewing room in no time! I was going down my sidebar and you are on it twice! LOL I figured I'd better come pay a visit. :) I'm glad I did. It's always such fun over here...even if you are crabby. hehe

Oh no!! The Crabbies!! If I were there, you could run away for a while and come sew at my house? Or we could go do some fabric damage and find a place to vent while eatting yummy lunch :c) It's going to come together quickly and you'll have your space in no time!

I'm sure it will all be worth it when it's done! I certainly looks like a fabulous room! You know, come spring I will be in the middle of some massive renovations! sigh! I will need to have lots of hand projects going as all sewing equipment will have to be put away. Can't be crabby! ;o) Hang in there, I'm sure it will be over soon enough!

Good for you for standing up for Kyle. I hope you get a hug for that from him!

I'm afraid I am now and always have been sort of the card table type sewer. I got a room to call my own, but the surface for sewing is less than a card table! I'm envious!
