What's That, You Say?

I've taken to wearing earplugs for sleeping when I travel. These little foam "bullets" block strange and unfamiliar room/traffic/people noises, and I can awaken completely rested and refreshed, something that used to elude me when I was away from home. Last night was different. I couldn't stay asleep in my own bed. First, my husband's Blackberry (set to vibrate for incoming messages) was buzzing away from the nearby bathroom vanity. He didn't hear it at all. I had to wake him up, as I had no idea how to turn the thing off by myself. When I had once again just drifted off, Kyle's dog began barking from the basement, where she sleeps in her crate (directly under our bedroom). Arrgghh! I opened my nightstand drawer and fumbled around until I found what I was looking for; I quickly inserted the foam rubber sleep-aids, one in each ear. Pure peace. The next thing I heard was my husband calling: "...good morning".... he sounded very far a way, and under water... huh? Whoa, I jumped up and literally flew out of the bed! The ear plugs really work! I never even heard him get up, shower, or get ready for work! He must have thought that I was in a coma, or worse. If I were in charge of packaging these little goodies I'd have to put a prominent warning label on the container: "Do Not Use Without Alerting Roommate, May Result In Possible Over-sleeping Followed By Sudden, Panicked Awakening!" My husband thought the whole thing was pretty funny.

Life is Good!

What a great idea! There are just some nights where even the slightest noise keeps me awake . . . not to mention those nights when the snoring is going on full tilt *s*

DH is right - this is funny!

And it leads me to ask...did you use these on your trip "to the capital city" and if so, how did Hannes feel about these little things. ;)

I can attest that your earplugs work great!!! When you wear them I can tell you anything without getting any argument from you!!!

Whenever I tour a plant I make sure to keep them! I keep a pair in my makeup bag in the same pocket so there is no question where I need to go in the middle of the night.

My husband has a pair of these in his pockets at all times. They're very handy; we love them on airplane trips.

Hm, sounds like something very useful. Especcially when traveling. Thanks for the good story.

I had to laugh my head off about that. There are nights when I would LOVE a pair of those -- but, well, then there are mornings (like Monday) when I know it's not possible. (Miss Tink had a nightmare and was screaming -- I was 1/2 way to her room before I even realized I was out of bed). I really loved your post about asking for help -- a lot to think about there, and to try and put in practice too :0).

My husband used to use those when he flew in the AF. I washed them in his flightsuit pocket for years before I knew they were in there..OR that you could wash them! Too funny...
