A Tale Of Two Portraits

Four years ago our daughter was married and we had her bridal portrait framed to hang on the wall in our dining room. It hangs on the right side of a large triple window that looks out from the front of our house. My plan has always been to have a similar type portrait flanking the window on the left side; someday, whenever our son married, of his lovely bride. Years have passed, whenever we spend time eating in the dining room the question always comes up from someone seated at our table regarding that blank expanse of wall. I always have had the same answer: "when Kyle gets married we'll hang a portrait there". When he became engaged his fiancée asked me if I had any one special request before the wedding. "Yes", only one; "a portrait for our dining room wall". My son looked shocked. "Huh?" he asked, "I thought you wanted a picture of ME for that space!" Now it was my turn to be surprised and confused. He went on with his explanation of how he had always thought when referring to another portrait when he married that it would be one of HIM! We had a good laugh over that and I still laugh thinking about him thinking that. My new daughter-in-law was gracious in honoring my request. We now have a matched set of portraits flanking that window. Two charming girls, each with their own personality and style reflected, mounted up in identical frames.
Life is Good!

Lovely set of portraits! Like your son, I was also surprised when you said your son's bride and not your son. But it's very sweet, and she must really feel welcomed by the family. :)

I & my sister both married before our younger brother. We both had our wedding portrait on mothers wall of fame. However soon after L Bro was married, there soon appeared a picture of L Bro in his wedding finerey. So I don't think Kyles request or expectation was out of line. So I vote with Kyle, he is your baby.

She looks much lovelier in that dress than Kyle would have!! I am sure there are plenty other spots for a wedding picture that includes Kyle.

What a cute story *s* I'm sure your wall is just lovely now that it's balanced with two beautiful portraits.

I, too, am surprised that you didn't put a picture of your son on that wall. After all she is your DAUGHTER In Law and he is your SON, I vote with Kyle as well..... Just my opinion... J

Second, I have chills all over. This is beyond lovely. And what a wonderful wonderful utterly wonderful way to display the love of a family. Because Kyle's wife is your daughter now and just ooohhhh...I love it.

First, Kyle is funny! You can't do that. It would look like a bride on one side and groom on the other.

And were I his bride I would feel so loved. Oh my. So loved.

however, kyle would have done a great job holding the sunflowers...and cocking his hip to one side! :)

:) you just have to love that boy!
