Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes...

Change is at hand. I don't deal with well with change, I am a Lutheran after all! There's a lot of truth in the old joke about how many Lutherans it takes to change a light bulb: 9--One to replace the bulb along with a committee of eight to discuss how much they'll miss the old bulb.

This photo has nothing to do with my own personal change, but it is all about reform; Lutheran humor, I couldn't resist!

My husband retires on the 30th of June. Everyone I know has given me coping tips. I really don't think I'll mind having him home all day everyday, we've done this before... his first "retirement" yielded us this house! OK, so he likes to keep busy. So do I. My own daily schedule may get tweaked a bit, I've never exactly stopped what I was doing to fix, eat and clean up after lunch. That will be a big change for me, I'm used to eating a sandwich with one hand and machine quilting with the other. I'm going to have to develop more flexibility, I think I can do that, I can learn to bend. I may not win any limbo contests but some flexibility would be beneficial for this old Lutheran, don't you think? I might even throw caution to the wind and start cleaning the house on Mondays! Ha, just teasing, I haven't lost my mind, no need to worry.

Life is Good!
...and getting better by the day...

You are a MUCH better woman than I! My policy for lunch is "every man for himself"... (Of course, this could be the reason I am now divorced.) Best of luck!!

Whew, you scared me there for a minute! So this is where you make a huge batch of egg salad or something and leave the bread laying suggestively around.....LOL!

Being single, I would say the same thing as Suzan - he's the newcomer and has to fit into your lifestyle, rather than you fitting into his.

I'm sure with his free time, you'll get more chances to do things together though. I hope you enjoy it!

Enjoy retirement! Oh there will be adjustments, but what fun you'll have sharing the little triumphs of each day right there together *s*

Good luck to you! I'm still adjusting to the early retirement of my DH. There are many advantages to having him home, but also a few snags. *s*

My hubby is the one who will have to be flexible, because I'm the one who will be retiring. But not for several more years! *s* Hang in there.

How about he fixes lunch for both of you and cleans up afterward? After all, he likes to stay busy, right? I really don't think all the adjustments to a husband's retirement should be made by the wife. I'm looking at the same thing in just a few years and really don't intend to drop everything to fix another meal each day. Good luck & hope he enjoys his retirement.

Well, it will be a change but you might enjoy it. Haines might enjoy the additional daddy time too! Plus you can make a giant "honey do" list for him and you might not see him for a long time! I would trade off on the lunch think every other day and go out for a big breakfast on the odd day!

Don't you know that quilters don't clean house!!??? ;-)

I'll bet he'll get busy in his workshop and you'll just keep on doing your thing. Let me know if he needs any projects to get him started...

My husband has been retired about 5years, and me 2 years. We sort of wing it, lunch is flexable, and he pitches in. Crockpots are nice, and soups that can be reheated, and best of all going out for lunch. Sometimes, we both need a break, after all.

Ha ha... funny joke!

Good luck to you! I'll be watching how you will cope with DH's retirement because I wondered sometimes too how I will cope with my DH when he retires... good thing he has a quite few more years to go. :D

Just popping by to say hello & thank you for stopping by the barn for a visit. I've long been a reader of you blog and have it bookmarked in my favorites. My Honey recently retired for the second and hopefully last time. The first time he completely re arranged my kitchen cupboards! Didn't make me happy, I'll tell ya!

This time has been better. I have a long Honey-Do list that keeps him busy. Lunch...he's on his own.

DH was forced into early retirement by disability and there are times when I want him to get out of the house so I can have some alone time, but most of the time we do very well--especially since I still work.

We'll have to check in again in a few years when I retire and see if it still jives!

Sounds like your pre-retirement plans are well organized!

We've survived 12 years of retirement and it has all gone quite well. There was no time to plan ahead as it was a last minute offer from from DH company. My only request...don't rearrange the kitchen. He didn't and he does most of the dishes. I cook. I didn't change the church quilting group on Tuesday and Bible Study and lunch on Wednesday. After almost 54 years of marriage I am getting a bit tired of making lunches though.
