Granny Goodneedle

He's been here for almost 48 hours now; that's how long I've officially been a Granny and, naturally, I have a few thoughts to share:

1. Even though I thought my heart and mind were ready to welcome this precious child, nothing could have prepared me for the first moment I saw my first-born holding her own baby; it was both amazing and completely overwhelming at the same time.
2. The capacity for love in one's heart knows no limits; there's always room for more. I couldn't love this little boy any more if I tried, my heart was already full, or so I thought, and then... I held him.
3. I am deeply thankful to God for each day, every single moment; they are blessings, like pearls, and they stretch out far beyond my gaze, my grasp. Shining brightly among the pearls are scattered brilliant diamonds, flashing their own lights and illuminating whatever they touch. Precious, special blessings; God reached down and quietly added one more of these to the treasury two days ago.

"...Grandmas can shed the yoke of responsibility, relax, and enjoy their grandchildren in a way that was not possible when they were raising their own children. And, they can glow in the realization that here is the seed of life that will harvest generations to come... "
-Erma Bombeck, American writer (1927-1996)

What a precious photo. Ah yes, there's always enough love to go around. I'm now a Grammie to seven and it just keeps getting better. Someone once told me, "becoming a grandma just makes you act silly" and I understood. I'm a fool for mine :)

So true - seeing YOUR baby gazing at her/his baby is overwhelming. I had to sit down and catch my breath then I just stared for a long time. There's no words!

Welcome to the world of grandmothers. A totally different feeling than being a parent. Enjoy every minute you are with him. Your comments were so true.

You made me cry! It is a beautiful thing and I am so happy for all of you. I am waiting patiently for that day to arrive in my own life (no hurry yet though, they are still too young)

What TRUE joy!! The love for a grandchild is so different than anything I had ever experienced, no words to describe the intensity... Wonderful !!!! I have said many times, when you see for the first time your daughter holding her child, the feelings you experience is like nothing before.. That's when you know without a doubt, LIFE IS GOOD!!!

Congratulations and thank you for your post, you describe the time so beautifully. My first Grandson was adopted by my daughter and son in law in South Africa, he had been abandoned at birth. The first time we saw him 'in the flesh'was at Heathrow airport on their visit home. Joseph was nearly 4 months old by then and the moment was amazing! They have now adopted another baby boy and we have twin granddaughters.God is so good I am constantly overwhelmed by His blessings!

Precious miracles! I, too, was unprepared for how much I would love our little grandson. I thought I knew, thought I would love him, thought I would be excited, but it's all so much bigger than I ever thought possible. And it's so much FUN!!!!

Love you!

Congrats! He is a beautiful baby! Thanks for the quote by Erma. She was from here in Arizona and I miss seeing her quoted in the newspaper. She still makes me laugh.

Just when you think you know every experience life offers (I idiotically thought being a grandmother would be a watered-down version of motherhood), you get thrown a beautiful curve like this.

The power of motherhood overwhelmed me, but grandmotherhood was just was as momentous. Congratulations to everyone. What a blessing.

It is true, you know you will love your grandchild, but you just don't realise how much love you will feel, until you experience it!!
So glad he is here, & all are well.
Congratulations all round.
