Flimsy Friday

It all started last Friday at our Bee "Sew-In", getting a few UFO's to the "flimsy" (quilt top) stage. The first, and oldest one, to come together was this circa 1999 hand embroidered redwork crib quilt: "I See Something Red". (Click on the photo for a close-up.) I found the receipt for the sashing/border fabric from Mary Jo's, it was still in the shopping bag, dated October 2000. I know I had begun the blocks the year before so this one was relatively easy to "date". I plan to quilt this and then cut a scalloped outer edge. I have never done a scalloped edge before but this quilt is just begging for one. Wish me luck. Next in line: "Leo And Friends", another crib quilt using a precious nursery print (with lions!) and based loosely (very) on the 3-6-9 Quilt pattern from P3 Designs. This top was only begun in the early spring of this year, it's almost new! Next to make it to the flimsy stage (even though it was no longer Friday, days had passed... but, hey, I was on a roll here!) was the wedding signature quilt, "Sunflower Love". The backing fabric has been ordered and it will be the next to be loaded onto Sundance. And, one more, drumroll...I began quilting a block swap quilt on Monday, entitled "Survey Said: RED", it's big-- 107" in length (long twin-sized). I really needed four (or more) arms to load this one, it was unwieldy; but it was well worth the exertion, I think it's going to turn out pretty. The pantograph is Lime Tree by Keryn Emmerson and after much deliberation I decided to go safe and settled on black quilting thread. The quilting design is effective on the back, black thread on a warm gold backing fabric. Our Bee will gather for another in-town retreat on Saturday the 6th of September. I need to pull more collections of pieced blocks; luckily, there's no fear of running low on those!

Life is Good!

It feels so good to see those blocks come together into tops, doesn't it? I'm on a quilting roll myself right now. It's really hard to stay at work!

Wow you got a lot done. I can't wait to see the scalloped border on the red quilt, I agree it will make it really really great.

The black thread sounds perfect for that quilt. I like seeing the thread and stitches on quilts. All the quilts look really great.

Go Granny go! Ha! I really love the red embroidered quilt. Did it take a baby to bring it to life?

Great show and tell - you've gotten a lot done in a short amount of time. Don't fear the scallops too much. Mark them with something non-permanent so you can easily adjust if need be. You'll be able to see that everything is to your liking before the first cut. Then just take a deep breath . . . . you'll be so happy with the results *s*

Oh I can see lots of fun times with grandkids playing I Spy with your redwork quilt. Is that one going to stay at Grandma's house?

Wow! You are inspiring me to get to work! I *need* to finish the hand stitching around the broom and the JOL on that Witch's Pantry quilt and get the other 2 into the flimsy stage. Thanks for the kick in the tushie!! I love that red work you did, a scalloped border will be perfect for it.
