One Smart Cookie

This precious little girl is one smart cookie. She and her family are members of our church, her dad and I served on the Personnel Committee last year. She is the apple of her grandparent eyes, both grandparents... I know them too, but especially her Nana, she is a quilter. Nana and "Cookie" love to spend time together; sewing, quilting, creating. Lovely things... American Girl quilts, family heirlooms and wallhangings. In this photo you see a wallhanging created especially for the Arts Festival at our church this past winter; by none other than the fiber artist you see pictured here, "Cookie" herself! This quilt was auctioned off to the highest bidder for a very generous sum! The owner of our LQS suggested to Nana that "Cookie's" little quilt should be entered into Bernina's quilt competition this past July at Bernina University in Kansas City. Long story short: it was, "Cookie" won a blue ribbon in her age category. When the winner was announced there were immediate, excited phone calls between KC and Nana's house! In this blurry photo (sorry, dead battery gasping for life in my camera!) you see our little quilter at 'show and tell' with her great grandma's button box as well as a lap quilt created for her best friend. This was just moments before she was overwhelmed and awarded with her grand prize from the show: a Bernina 230 "White Pearl". She's just 9 years old. It was quite a moment, one I'll long remember, she's one smart cookie. Teach a child to quilt, pass along a life skill. The quilt world will only be made better and stronger by these: our newest, youngest and smartest sisters. Welcome!

Life is Good!

What a great story! "Cookie" is one talented little girl. I've got a "Cookie" too but she waited until 25 to pick up on the quilting skills. She'll soon pass me up! Guess it's never too late!

Mrs.Goodneedle,
What a heartwarming story and how lovely that the little girl is able to spend such wonderful quality time with her Nana. What a nice prize to win too- but the greater prize is doing something special with her Nana.
Thanks for sharing..
