Quilty Things, The Family Speaks...

It's time for a report on quilty things; yes, I can still thread a needle! This is a three-fold post, works in various stages of progress, all sandwiched in-between trips to "Mason-the-Magnificent"'s house!

In preparation for tomorrow's Southern Album class I have finished (just under the wire!) 'Audubon Pine'* (I also did 'Sweet Tea Stars', not pictured.) This, the *'AP' block, is my tree of life. It's dated, has one special little doggie(!) in place of the suggested birds, and one red leaf representing a precious new addition; my first grandchild, he had a voice in this design!

All Aboard!, Mason's Zoo Train wallhanging, is underway. Thanks for all the votes in favor of the blue stripe background, I liked it too; but Mason's Mommy and Quiltteacher (the retired art teacher from Fernleaf Lane) both made a good case for the white background, and so... white it is! I've stitched out three of the blocks (monkey in the middle... sorry, too obvious!!) six more to go. I will add red piping around every block and sash between the blocks with a solid blue... hue still to be determined (three colors are featured across the bottom), I think I like the light blue, but... we'll see, everything's negotiable! (Click photo to enlarge)

Sunflower Love, the wedding "siggie" quilt (not nearly this *bright* in real life!) is all laid out and ready for a wider, green, outer border. I had labored over placing teeny yellow/brown four-patches as cornerstones and was considering a similar checkerboard-style inner border until the newlyweds wandered in and came up with this, a much similar layout. At first, I felt that it was much too plain; but then, I saw the secondary pattern emerging and just loved it for it's elegant simplicity! They were right. After quilting it with a hearts and flowers motif, I plan to pipe along the inside of edge with the yellow fabric and bind it in the chocolate brown, that should prove to be just the right finish for this beauty! Stay tuned...

And so... the family speaks!
I'm listening, and finishing, accordingly; and it's all good.
Life is Good!

The family tree is beautiful. Especially with the red leaf and the doggie there. Touches like that really make the quilt/block something of our own.
