Living With Wildlife

As we approached our driveway after church this morning we happened upon a family of five turkeys running along the road. We hear them often, down deep in the woods that surround our property, but we don't usually see them. My husband thought them brave to make an appearance with Thanksgiving not that far off! We had other visitors drop by the front yard to pay a visit last week, I guess the change of seasons, and cooler days, encourages more mobility. Although it's not unusual for us to have deer close by, we don't usually see entire families in the front yard grazing in the mid-morning sunshine! I haven't planted my fall pansies yet, so their visit made me smile; but, in another week or so my expression will be entirely different, guaranteed!

I forgot to tell you about the two deer we saw just before we got to your house yesterday. They are so fun to watch!

We enjoyed visiting for a few minutes with you all. I just wish one of us captured Shelby and Hannes' little moment. I am still laughing!

Go Postal had three deer in his yard Friday night....and his brother had been bow hunting all afternoon nearby and didn't see a one. I think they know he doesn't hunt and have adopted his cabin as a safe haven. But yes they can mow down a pansy bed in no time...I am glad you all shared the deer repelant name with us, that stuff is amazing.

A familiar sight here in my corner of Northeast Nebraska. I live on the very edge of a very small town and the wildlife practically comes up to the front door :) The deer are pretty but can be a real nuisance too. Sometimes the best way to see them is all wrapped up in the freezer!!

Those are the BIGGEST turkeys I've ever seen...they look prehistoric. Good thing they come already processed in the store...I could not do that the old fashioned way...(but I do have a huge crowd coming for dinner in a couple of months, so if they become bothersome to you....) The deer are sweet...that one looks too thin though, so guard your pansies!

Oh my goodness.... those Turkeys are funny looking indeed. I have had deer in the yard..but nothing like turkeys. I loved those little burp rags. Lucky baby.

How funny! Wild turkeys are such weird looking birds. I sometimes see deer on my way into and out of campus which I think is strange. What are deer doing on the U of Mich campus??

No turkeys in Japan, not even in the supermarkets! Deer I have seen in the wilds when I'm hiking but not near us. Quail I come across quite a lot and pheasant. Snakes are in abundance!

Love the views of your wildlife! We are lucky enough to have deer visit our neighborhood once in awhile, too. I enjoy looking at their delicate beauty. I agree with your husband - those turkeys are brave to be out and about so close to Thanksgiving! LOL!
