Taking Time, Making Time

I've been working hard to stay caught up with the Southern Album class. I'm happy with my Cotton Boll block, just completed; unfortunately, I have contracted the same throat and upper respiratory infection that my husband suffered from last week and decided to stay home from class yesterday, my sore throat was raging and I just felt too tired and ache-y to go out. I'll have to work extra hard to catch up now, as this was our next to last session! This morning I feel better, after crawling into bed early last evening with the latest Quilter's Newsletter and Quilt Sampler magazines, that's a luxury I don't usually enjoy. I fluffed up the pillows, nestled in, and slowly read through all the articles, digesting every word; especially Helen Kelley's, knowing full well that this was among the last she ever wrote. I'm glad that I slowed down yesterday, I needed to take the time to recover and recharge the ol' battery.

I need to make time, too! I bought EQ6 about a year ago and haven't taken the time, or made the time, to learn it or use it. It's something that I really WANT to do, if simply wanting to do it would make me proficient, then I'm already an expert. Unfortunately, that's not the way it works. There's a learning curve that needs to be climbed and I simply haven't put forth the effort. I told my husband last night that I am going to make the time to learn the program. I can do this by scheduling it, that's what works for me. I'm building learning time into my daily "to do" list. Three days a week, two hours a day, I'm penciling in: EQ6. Until I make it through to the end, design a few quilts and actually stitch them into being, I'll be "in class". I am going to be making time to learn, and practice, a new skill.

Take the time, make the time; be good to yourself today~

I have three of the good EQ5 books - I realize some bits may have changed with EQ6 BUT since I am moving to the Mac platform, would you be interested in these? I took a class at our LQS and these were the recommended resources. Let me know - and DO take time to get better... it will actually save you time in the long run!

Happy you are feeling better. The idea of snuggling in the bed sounds kinda nice! Does Hannes get to come up and snuggly-time, too?

I'm a scheduler. I schedule the menagerie, my workout, my quilty time, my nap time and when I eat. Then I prioritize. The scheduled stuff gets accomplished. The priorities are...well...

Don't feel badly. I've had ever version of EQ from 3 on, including 6, and I have yet to really learn to use it. I've played with it many times, gone through a few of the lessons, etc., but never long enough or close enough together to remember what I learned from session to session. Each time I start over I vow that this time I'll keep at it. Learning totally how to use it was one of my goals for retirement. Still hasn't happened! There still aren't enough hours in a day.

I'm glad you're feeling a bit better today. Sometime you do have to slow down for a bit and I know that it hard for you to do. You are on the go all the time!

Your cotton boll block is absolutely beautiful!

I love the idea of making time. I've been trying so hard lately to get a few UFO's finished. Maybe if I follow your lead and schedule them in, they'll get done!
Hope you're feeling better!

Did Helen pass away or just retire? I often turned to her article first because she had such a nice down to earth style with a lot of wit and wisdom.

Hope you feel better soon

The cotton boll block is just beautiful - and the colors are scrumptious. I know what you mean about EQ. Even in retirement I can't seem to keep up with everything I need/want to do. blessings, marlene

Love your Southern Album.
EQ is addictive so set your kitchen timer to keep you on track. Once you get into it you will love the process so much that you may not have time to do all of the quilts that you can design with it.

Maybe I should join you in "class". I have the program too and *want* to learn how but have not taken the time either. Good Luck!

Hi Mrs Goodneedle,
I think your cotton boll block is gorgeous.
What happened to Helen Kelley- I remember seeing her beautiful quilt that she made to celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary. It was a gorgeous piece where she used her wedding photo and turned it into a pieced quilt. You could almost feel the folds in her dress. It is a moving piece of work and I always thought what a great gift of love she made to pay homage to her marriage. I have her books and always enjoyed reading her column.
I hope that you are feeling much better.
Regards,
Anna

Hope you are up and around soon. That picture of Hannes is beautiful! And of course Mason at any time is as cute as can be. Love that purple outfit!

Ah yes, I totally agree with this post. How often do we not take the time for ourselves and make the time for something we really want to accomplish? It's so easy to put it off another day for some reason.
I have the EQ5, and have the workbooks for it, and I still have trouble understanding it! Of course, I have been making the time for it, either! I think I need to do some penciling in on my calendar meself! You are an inspiration to me, and I thank you!
I hope you are feeling ever so much better now.
Your block is beautiful - I love the fabrics!
