From The Outside In

I had my last Southern Album class on Sunday, now I'm working from the outside in. Here are the blocks, to date, pinned on the design wall. I have a 'Carolina Lily' in the works, it will fill the hole on the top left, it is predominantly blue. The center section is due to receive a 'Fortress Star' block which will sit on point, like all the others, to be bordered by appliqued 'Southern Vines' with berries... forty four of them (but who's counting?)! My plan is to use a similar background fabric for this entire section, but lighter; this will be bordered, yet again, by a two inch strip of the same fabric as the inner border (pictured here hanging beside the dark floral outer border). To give you an idea of what I'm talking about look at this finished example (r) from a student in last year's class, here is the 'Fortress Star' surrounded by 'Southern Vines', take a look at the way this one is quilted, too! Wowie!! I am so very happy that I took this class, my quilt never would have come into being at all without the support and encouragement of my wonderful instructor and fellow classmates. Stay tuned for the finish, I'm revved up to get this one done now! I may have to re-title it; 'Great Big Yawn' doesn't fit the mood of the piece anymore, it looks more like 'Awakening' to me now.

...and oh look at Hannes!

This is of course lovely and I could go on and on but Oh...look at Hannes. I can't contain myself, I can't focus, I can't get over the wonder of him. Oh he's so perfect in that spot. I haven't even had enough coffee to use that as an excuse for my exuberance. This is just real life LIVE Karen.

Your quilt is going to be beautiful when you finish. And I love how you included Hannes in the composition. He is such a lucky boy. But I'm sure he knows that he is. Missed you at quild last night.

No, "Great Big Yawn" definitely does not apply...it never did in my humble opinion. Having seen the blocks up close and personal, it is a masterpiece.

I love this pattern and think the blue inner border repeated around the center block will make it all just look stunning.

Such a lovely quilt you are making. I especially like the blue in it. Sue Garman does berries. I linked to a blog post of hers that shows a quilt with tons of berries. I am a member of The Quilt Show and in Episode 304 she showed how she makes lots and lots of berries.

Your blocks are so pretty - I just love the colors. I have the pattern for making this quilt and I sure wish I had the time to do it as well. Well done!

Debbie, this is just lovely and I can't wait to see the finished quilt. You just can't go wrong when you combine piecing and applique in one quilt.

I love the name change for your quilt. I think "Awakening" is perfect for it! It is gorgeous, and I'm looking forward to seeing it finished. What a work of heart for you!

That is going to be one beauty of a quilt! My BOM track record is not that great . . . but upon reflection, I have been successful if the project was in conjunction with a class *hmmmm*
