Back On Track

I have gotten myself back on track; the Zoo Train tracks, to be specific! The top is done and will hang over my grandson's changing table after it is sandwiched and quilted. If you remember, I was hesitating on setting these blocks together when the embroideries were completed because of the piping that was required. Now, after going around sixteen(!) six inch blocks I feel confident enough to press forward and get this one off the "list" in short order. "All Aboard!" measures 34" square and will finish up with a red piped edge along the binding. (Click photo for detail) The trick to keeping the piped edges straight and square? Pins, lots and lots of pins. I must add, though, proceed with extreme caution if you choose to sew over pins! No pins were mangled for demonstration purposes, I assure you, this is a photo of an actual pin that I struck while sewing! I was lucky that the machine is still running without any ill effects, believe me when I advise you to NOT sew over pins. If you simply feel that you must cross over your pins, sew over them s-l-o-w-l-y. In my case, this could just as easily have had a disastrous outcome and required a technician for time consuming and expensive repairs. You really wouldn't want to be without your machine just before the holidays, I know I wouldn't!

Absolutely wonderful (have been there and done that re pins)... so glad you went with the white background instead of the blue stripe we all liked so much. Mason is one lucky little boy!

All Aboard turned out very sweet!

I am bad for running over pins. I slow down but sometimes not slow enough. Bad things happen...

Your works is always so lovely.

My Mom has sewn my entire life and before I was an egg, too! hee. Anyway, I am good about pulling out pins as I go - thank you Mom. I should mention that to her.

A Good Egg Love, *karendianne.

I remember those blocks in progress. The quilt turned out so cute. That pin is very scary looking.

This quilt is wonderful! I have a quilt pattern out that also requires piping...is this a new trend? I admit to being intimidated and was thinking of graphing a different layout so I wouldn't have to do it...maybe I'll give it a try.
