Inside? Outside?

On Wednesday afternoon in Las Vegas, after walking our legs off, we ended up at the Venetian. I really wanted to visit this landmark, and view the canal, after seeing a show about the building of this magnificent hotel on the Travel Channel; it didn't disappoint! Once inside (looks like outside!) we strolled along beside the canal and perused the shops. It is easy to imagine that you are in Italy and after a short while I became completely lost in the environment. Eventually, we found ourselves in another building without ever stepping outside... or had we actually been outside? This inside/outside concept left me feeling strangely disoriented and increasingly claustrophobic. I sensed that I needed to get outside to re-set my bearings, but doors that looked like they led out of doors were, in reality, interior doors. Finally, we pushed one door open that led to a sidewalk and real sunshine! Immediately, my mind adjusted and my body relaxed. It's hard to put into words the strange effect that this inside/outside environment had on me; it left me wondering if, eventually, one would get used to this. The Venetian and the Canal are well done, extremely realistic, maybe a little too much so!
