Starts And Stops

Up until today I felt a little bit like a baby bird teetering on the edge of it's sturdy the nest.
..."maybe I'll jump; no, maybe not"...
I had learned a ton of new tips and techniques for successful longarming when I was in Iowa, in October(!), and I haven't been able to see my way clear to try of any of them... until now! It's time. Life was cozier before I ventured out into free-motion world. But, I'm out of the nest now and there's no turning back. It's been a series of starts and stops. I'm experimenting with feathers and continuous curves, for real. After repeating the shapes over and over on the dry erase board, until I was swimmy-headed from inhaling the marker fumes, I decided it was time to jump; and I did! No one feather or curve is perfect, far from it; but the overall effect is passable. I'm getting the hang of starting and stopping, too. The backside of the quilt is all the better for me taking my time and carefully pulling my threads up and securing them before I move over and begin all over again. There's a rhythm developing and I'm digging the beat!

Life is Good!

After all this, there is only one thing to say: Have reverence for God, and obey his commands, because this is all that we were created for. ECCLESIASTES 12:13 TEV

The feathers I see are wonderful...great quilting. Doing them on the longarm always made me nervous and I was never satisfied with them, never.

Good for you Mrs. Good Needle,
It is often hard to make the first jump but jump you did and you did a wonderful job-
Enjoying the process is a really important part of anything we do - especially things like quilting.
I look foreward to seeing more of your beautiful work.
Regards, Anna

isn't it funny
that the "low odor" markers smell as much as they do!

There is a brand of low odor markers that is really low odor. I use it in my classroom. Sneak a sniff at the office supply store to find the correct brand. I have a 'greasy' mind and things like brand names just slip right out!

Last year during a class with Linda Taylor at MQX, I noticed that she makes mistakes too! We all do! But.... as a whole quilt, it doesn't show. Sally Terry works her mistakes in, making it a planned mistake. Looks wonderful to me! Feathers are something that I also need pratice! Keep well!
