"Let's Talk" Tuesday...

Hey, there... it's that time of the week again and Mom isn't here. She left me in charge; named me 'guest moderator' while she's skiing out west. It's a lot of responsibility, whew! I've been trying to think of a topic, and a few good ones have come to mind: "what breed would you think is the perfect quilting dog companion" and "would you rather have a small dog or larger dog sleep on your quilts to show them off to their full potential"... but then I remembered that Mom had assigned a topic; oh, yeah. I'd better get to it or I'll lose my substitute position permanently! Thanks for stopping by!

Describe what would constitute the perfect quilting day for you.

For me, the perfect quilting day would be all about preparation. The pattern and fabrics would have been preselected and the pieces would already be cut and neatly arranged. The studio would be clean and all I would need to do is show up and sew. My lunch would be prepared, too; by someone else! (I can dream, right?) Oh, yeah... and my bobbin would never run out! ;)

...and sew, "let's talk"...
what's the perfect quilting day for you?

Life is Good!

Well, I'd have to say that Lucy, Shelby, and you, Hannes, are the BEST quilting companions. Max makes a good bed model...except he covers up so much of it...but that black fur is such a nice contrast to any fabric.

As for the perfect quilting day, for me it is when I pack it up and go on retreat. No phone calls, no "MOM!!", no other responsibilities but to sew until I can't see straight. Ahhhh....bliss!

Hey, little H! It looks like you are enjoying your time at "camp". I'll see you on Saturday when I come to pick you up. Be good! Love, Big Sis

No kids at home and lots of chocolate and coffee. Oh, and a clean sewing room would help.

My perfect quilting day would be a day at home alone - no one around so I wouldn't feel guilty about staying in my sewing room all day. And the prep would be cruicial - clean room, easy to grab food, and a pattern and fabric all ready to go. Also a good movie or a book on CD to keep me company too.

A perfect quilting day for me is hubby content, fed and playing with his computer. Great old movies in the DVD player. A new quilt all basted and waiting to be snuggled under while hand quilting. Me in the recliner with my kitties all around. Bird feeder filled and birds right outside my window. Heaven!

I think my perfect quilting day would be to have everything ready and waiting for me, and a clean sewing room to begin with. sometimes it is with other ladies, where I have fellowship and help pressing if necessary and some days it is at my home alone with my iPod and the cats. At the end of it all a glass of wine and some chocolate!

My quilting day sounds like yours. Everything ready to go, all I have to do is go in and sew. Also no one around ALL Day wanting a meal etc.
My favorite quilting dog is a mutt named Nina. :-)

Yes, all about preparation and laying the ground rules... DH away at a woodturning event where he isn't likely to call home (I'm happy knowing that he is creatively engaged and having fun)... phone on voice mail... no one to answer to except the fabrics and the colors... lunch waiting in the fridge, chocolate ice cream for dessert... bliss.

Hi Mrs. G (and Hannes!),
My perfect sewing day would also have to be prepared for, since I'm not a big fan of cutting. Then my sweet family would have to be out for the day, so that I could actually get something done:) Also, my day would have to start very early so that I could get a lot done.
Thanks for the topic, and by the way, I'm having a giveaway, so drop by!

Hannes, mom left you at home? Let's talk dog talk here. No offense to you but my perfect companion is my miniature Schnauzer. She is laying on the floor next to me as I write this. Her name is Cindi, 13 years old, and she is a sweetie pie. Just want to say "Ditto" to the perfect day. Have fun skiing!

The perfect quilting day includes a clean house, something yummy bubbling on the stove, straight seams that always match, no cutting errors, and just the right amount of fabric to add the perfect border and binding . . . . with a little left over for the scrap bag.
As for quilting canine companions, Harper is my perfect pal - 65 pounds of shelter mixed doggy perfection *s*

When I go on retreat, I usually have everything ready to just sew or applique or knit in the company of friends and quilters. I love retreats.

I would like to quilt in my perfect world with a group of friends. Fabulous fabric kits would already be ready for each of us to sew and create in the colors of our choice. Food would be plentiful, yummy, and have no calories! Oh....was this a real day? or a fantasy?? Hee!!

I think that is why I like going to my QBTB ( Quilting by the Bay) days. I have pre-planned the projects I am going to work on for the day because I have to pack them up and take them. Then when we arrive at 9 AM there is a big pot of coffee and fresh cranberry and pecan scones. There is always a little gift waiting at our place - like a chocolate bar for later. Lunch is brought to us about 12:30. I always have the turkey and cranberry sandwich which is yummy. At supper we have a great meal of Lasagna and salads and yummy desserts and a glass (or two) of wine. And then we continue on quilting until 10 PM. Lots of great conversations and fun with my quilting peeps -- and I actually get stuff done!

My perfect quilting day: Machine, Fabrics, and wine loaded into the SUV and I am on my way to Quilt Camp. A whole day, or three, with no cell phone, no TV, no children, no husband, no dogs or other animals. Someone else to cook for me and no decisions to make. Many friends in one area to stitch, laugh and "carry on" together until my body sent me to bed. Then, to get up and do it all over again.

I was planning my "PERFECT" day with all my Sew Original friends until work changed all those plans, but that will happen. I can only dream of a weekend at the Magnolia Manor with all those lovely ladies.maybe next year!!!!

My perfect quilting day ... I would be home alone, just me and Shelby. My husband would be on a golf course somewhere for the weekend. All the prep work would be done and everything in its place in the sewing room. There would be hot tea in the pot and leftovers in the fridge for lunch and dinner. I would have a brand new mystery on CD for me to listen to while I stitch. When I need a break from the machine, I'd have some hand applique that I would attempt until I finally fell asleep in my big fluffy chair with Shelby curled up in my lap.

Oh...I can't wait until Friday. It could be my next chance for a perfect quilting day.

Riley is my "quilt-dog". A solid black toy poodle. He just loved to cuddle up next to me when I doing hand work watching TV. If I'm at the machine, he is always close by.

As for the perfect quilting day, I just have to ditto you Mrs G. But, I'll take anything I can get.

Again on Wednesday darn it.

My quilting dog is a Lab mix, she usually doesn't put more than her head on blocks laid out on the floor, but will steal anything finished for her bed.

My perfect quilting day would have to start with some prep work, like shoving all 3 other members of my family out the front door and locking it behind them. It would also start early in the morning because I work best then. Music on, magic iron that never runs dry to go with the never ending bobbins and even if I had to cut things out I would be good.

Everyone says such good things about retreats, I'd like to make time this year to find one and see if I can get a perfect quilting day or two in.

Hannes,
You did a wonderful job as a guest moderator. Of course, Dachshunds make the best quilting companion and to sleep on my quilts... I have pix to prove it! :-)
A perfect quilting day for me is all day sewing with someone else taking care of the meals and cleaning!

My perfect quilting day? A day when my rotary cutter is sharp, so my pieces are cut exactly the size they are supposed to be, my seams are straight and my piecing fits together perfectly! No seam ripping, no do-overs, only smooth quilty sailing. Someone can be around to make me lunch, too! Heavy sigh......
As for Hannes' questions - you know I would much rather have a small dog sleep on my quilts! The perfect quilting dog companion? A dachshund, obviously!!
