Keep It Simple

"I'm feeling like I want to try something new"... an innocent enough statement, but when tossed out to one's hairdresser it can have results containing a ripple effect of epic proportions! We decided together that a low-maintenance cut was just the thing I was searching for, a short, layered smooth and sleek "bob" that would only require a simple blow-dry and I'd be out the door. (Beware of the word "simple"!) So, I got my hair cut on Thursday afternoon; it looked very cute when I left the salon. It's short, much shorter than I'm used to. I learned the next morning, after shampooing it, that there's not one thing simple about it maintaining it! Blowing it dry with the same round brush I've used for a long time yielded too much curl and wave. My daughter helped me to smooth it out with her flat iron; that did the trick, but required a trip to the discount department store to purchase the needed appliance for myself, I considered buying a new blow-drying brush but ended up adding some styling gel to my purchase instead. I was happy enough with this impetuous decision of mine despite the fact that my head and neck feel naked and my husband had yet to say one word. I knew he had to have noticed, so finally, last night, I asked what he thought. He stared at me, blankly; "it will grow" was all he said before turning his attention back to something else. I guess we both need to get used to something this new, it's that simple!

i thought it looked great thursday!
but i guess things change!
i now hate my simple hair cut too...
on flat iron days, i love it
and on air dry curl days, i love it
but the other 98% of the days....when i blow dry it and nothing else, it is ugh!
if only debbie would come home with us and fix it for us!

There is no such thing as a "no maintenance" hairstyle (unless you're a guy!) I finally broke down and got a "Chi" flat iron. One of my best purchases ever :)

I know Go Postal gets tired of seeing a pony tail, but that truly is the only low maintenance style I have. I am sure it looks fine and you proably will find "your way" of styling it.

I've done this too many times to count! I'm a low maintenance hair kind of gal, but I keep getting styles I see in magazines that take way too much to maintain. Can't wait to see a pic of your new do.

Sounds familiar! I recently did the opposite and let my hair grow. Yes, it was very short to begin with. I worked and worked with it once it had been cut into the "simple" style I had waited for. My daughter came home and got out the straightener and went to work. We went to the store at 11pm to buy the device. It really did help and now I can't live without it. I am sure that your hair looks great! Aren't we so glad that we have daughters to keep us "straight". :-) Have a great day!

I'm with Nane - a ponytail is my best hair friend. Not the best look for me, but absolutely do-able. It's a shame that the more time I spend messing with my hair, the better it looks (grrrr) and it's also true that the longer the hair, the better the guys like it. You'll get to a happy place with this cut. The shorter you cut it, the more quickly it grows out of the cut. Sigh! I enjoy being a girl!

Oh my ~ there must be an epidemic!

I changed stylists 2 months ago and made the decision to quit trying to hide the gray (aging strawberry blond).

I must say that this stylist has truly found a style that allows me to wash, tousle with a light leave-in conditioner, quick comb, air dry and go... and she's kept it the same now for 3 trims which has made me a very happy low-maintenance camper.

DH didn't like mine so short at first, but he's adjusted (his is buzzed, like he has much to say). Hope ya'll get to that comfort zone soon!

I have a hair cut coming tomorrow and it seems 'they' always talk better than 'they' cut. They can't seem to remember what they do from one cut to the next ...

At least you didn't get a buzz ... LOL

Hair Cuts.............hummmmmmm....
I have been having to get that done, wherever I'm at, and that isn't always a good thing. Well, it's usually never a good thing. I am badly in need of SOMETHING being done now, just can't decide. Thinking of going blond!!!Now wouldn't this old lady look just stunning???? Gotta decide!

I agree that will grow!
It will take some extra maintenance for while! :)
I did similar mistake. I cut my hair once very short in high school but then my hair grow more healthy!

Have a great day!

I'm sure it looks great but I understand that feeling of regret very well. Last time I cut my hair, I kept wondering what in the world have I done. The good news is it always grows out again...so we can cut it all off again.

And isn't it wise of DH to say what he said. His words - he kept it simple.

I have heard it said that the only way to keep your hair looking great every day is to sleep with your hairdresser! I think that's taking things a bit far, don't you? LOL! I bet your new 'do is wonderful.

Haircut...a scary word to me. And I'm in need for one. I just want a simple, easy-to-maintain style, but I think I'm expecting the impossible. My signature bob has been the closest to it for me except for the pixie cuts from many years ago which no longer are flattering on my little self. What to do? What to do? Ack!
