An Easter Story

A couple of summers ago we were visiting my Mom and Dad in New England. They had their home on the market to sell at that time; and, not knowing if we'd ever visit them there again, my mother invited me to dig up any plants or flowers that I wanted to bring back home with me. I took her up on her offer and the last day of our visit my husband and I dug up clumps of ferns, Bleeding Heart, Cranesbill and Hosta. A variegated broad-leaf foliage plant caught my eye and I asked Mom about that. She explained that it was a decorative grass, she had planted it in what was her former "white garden" for an accent plant. I dug one of those up too and we planted everything in it's new southern location after we arrived back home two days later. Those plants floundered that first summer, but I poured the water to them and hoped for the best. Last spring I noticed that everything came back except for that decorative, variegated grass; apparently the move had been just too much for it, I promptly forgot about it. This spring I was surprised, and amazed, to discover the sword-like foliage of an Iris coming up where that grass clump had been. Imagine my delight when I stepped out last Sunday morning to this sight! Oh, yes; a glorious, pure-white, Iris blooming on Easter morning. I thought I knew what I had in the ground, but oh, no; God had a bigger surprise, something so much better!

Hello! I just learned about your blog from Quiltville and noticed that one of your favorite books is "Mrs. Goodneedle and the Miracle Quilt". Thinking that it might be a good read with my children I went searching for it on my library site as well as at Amazon. It is not to be so easily found. Could you help me?
Thanks!

Mrs. G: You are so fortunate to have the Iris from your mother's garden. I missed out by not digging up the Irises in my mother's garden and I regret it to this day. She is gone now, but if I had only one iris I would feel just a little bit closer to her. I know she watches over me...I can feel her presence every day.
