Hitchin' A Ride

We went plant shopping this week, the destination: a nursery south of the Capital City. Naturally, we were required to stop by our precious grandson's home beforehand for a quick hug. Our daughter suggested that we take her van (it's easier with Mason's car seat installed) so, we hitched a ride with her and off we went! It's a good thing she had plenty of space, we completely filled it! We were headed back home again in the early afternoon, having transferred all of the plants and flowers to our car. Little did we know at the time, but we weren't the only ones who hitched a ride back from the nursery. There was a little lizard who came along with us to the Capital City and decided to take up residence in her spacious van. My daughter didn't think it was funny at all when I asked her if her gecko passenger spoke with a British accent! (At last report he's been set free to roam the outdoors, I know she's relieved!) I've been busy the last day and a half planting up all the pots and containers on our porches and patio. I hoisted a huge bag of potting soil into the wheelbarrow and managed to pull something out of whack in my lower back. Lovely, now there's a painful hitch in my giddy-up; I'm walking all bent-over like a little old lady. Ouch! I should've known better than to lift anything heavier than fabric and my rotary cutter. Live and learn...

Hope your back is feeling better this morning! And funny story about the lizard! I've never thought about that happening, now I'll be more observant when I go to the garden center!

I imagine your daughter didn't enjoy her stowaway buddy. Imagine his confusion when he finally got out of the van..."where the heck am I?"

Hope your back feels better soon!

I wouldn't have cared for the hitch hiker myself! Glad he has now relocated. Take care of your back...relax!

Okay, I can hear you asking if he had a british accent. Out comes that sense of humor of yours. Nice timing there Mrs. G. You're soooo bad!!! When I read this I cracked a smile and shook my head.

On a serious note, have a good book to read today? It might be nice to rest at least part of the day. I don't know though, sometimes moving around is better. ~ Dr. Lee!

So sorry about your back! I'll save the comfy chair for you for bee.

Too funny about the lizzard - though I wouldn't have been laughing if I found him while driving!! At least it wasn't a snake...we seem to be finding them in abundance so far this spring.

Take care of your back. You want to be able to quilt on Sundance! Don't we all seem to overdo it first thing in the spring?

LIZZARD! YIPPES!!! I am terrified of those things, I don't like snakes either, but wouldn't be nearly as afraid of one of them. BUT, I don't want to find either of them in the vehicle with me.I would have a wreck, I'm sure.
My SIL done the same thing as you, many, many years ago, and for the longest time I would NOT ride in her car, even though I knew she had relocated him.AND, NO, I wasn't in the car when she found him!
Take care of the back, reading sounds like the perfect day today.

Cute story! Reminds me of the time that we gave a wood rat and her litter of 5 babies a ride that crossed the state of Oregon. Perched on our radiator, she was only discovered by a captive audience of service station attendants who thought she was the neatest thing they'd found under the hood in a long time! We gave her a good home on our own property...only to later discovered we'd transferred a regional species. We love our animals...tame or wild, but driving another 5 hours to bring her to her true home was too much for us ;)

Leaping Lizards! Remember that one? Oh I am sad for your back! That is why I never try to lift anything, or garden, for that matter! No, it's not that I am lazy. It couldn't be that!

We displaced a lizard when we moved from Houston Tx to Casper Wy in January. Unfortunately he didn't take well to the Wyoming winters. Take care of that back.

Sorry to hear about your back - I developed back pains this winter after an airplane ride!

My recommendations - make sure you are sitting on a nice fluffy pillow. My office and sewing room chairs are those old wood library chairs, so sitting on the hard surface hurt. They now have big pillows! I also found a vibrating pillow, which also helped to lean against for a few minutes every hour.

The other thing that helped was doing slow stretches. I was in the process of redoing my stash closet and decided to refold everything. I would sit on my bed for about an hour at a time and lean forward to lay out the fabric, smooth it out then slowly straighten up as I folded the fabric. After one or two sessions, I realized that my back was feeling better!

I think I am more aware of my back now and I vary my gardening tasks so I am working different muscles. Doing more "warm up" exercises before I venture outside.

take care! Liz

I planted my dracena spikes, begonias, and dusty miller in our 8 pots around the yard last night - I'm feeling the dirt moving today... be gentle and try to remember you aren't 15 any more (physically, anyway).

LOVE the lizard story -

Oh dear, I hope your back is feeling better very soon. My new exercise class does back strengthening exercises which is so important.
I am thinking that your DD won't offer you a ride to the gardening center next year! Cheers! Evelyn

I love plant shopping. I always want way more than we have space for in the yard. Jim's response when I show him a plant is always, "where is that going?"
