A Basket Is Born, SLOWLY...

I've been working on a floor basket for Hannes' toys. After the previous basket "flop" (more of a flared-edge bowl than a basket) I have, sort of, caught on to what I did wrong and am figuring out the straight sides concept! I thought I had more than enough fabric-wrapped clothesline, it seemed like miles to me; boy, was I wrong. My requirements for the basket are 16.5" in diameter and 10 or 11 inches deep. Since I was making this up in my own head I had no idea how much clothesline would actually be needed. That's how far the basket has progressed with the line I had ready, that's 170 feet and the basket is only about four inches deep, groan. I'm hard at work again, back to wrapping more. Based on my own crack calculating skills I will need another 80 feet; but, to be on the safe side, I will wrap a full 100 foot length. Hannes was a little disappointed that he didn't have a new basket for his toys after all that activity. I told him we could finish it up right there but he'd have to get rid of about half of his stuffed animals and squeaky toys. He decided to wait it out! It's a good thing he's a patient pup, the basket-birthing process is a s-l-o-w one.

I am liking what I see so far...but I liked your flared bowl too, so that should be a keeper as well as a lesson learned ☺! Look at the sweet Hannes waiting so patiently, I feel like I should reach under Sundance and stroke that soft fur! Have a wonderful evening and a better day tomorrow!

What? that is an amazing number of feet in that basket so far--can't believe it will need so much more to become full grown! It looks just fine and straight tho!

What an industrious goal. I bought some clothesline at a quilt shop recently because it was available. Whether or not I'll use it for a project such as yours is unknown. I may just string up a section and hang some small quilts from it, if I find an appropriate place, that is.

That will be a great basket. I have seen these on KD's blog and thought I wanted to make one. Now I am not so sure! I am not so much "the stream" that you are!

Love that basket, Mrs. G.!! Dewey and Bayley are wondering if you might not just go ahead and make TWO while you're at it ROFL. That is an adorable photo of Hannes---he is such a beauty!! Little Bayley is growing like a weed, in to EVERYTHING, chewing on anything and EVERYTHING that he shouldn't, and just in general an adorable little pup. :)

Wow that is a lot of cloths line. That one picture with the basket upright under the foot looks funny.

This is SO cool! I started saving 3/4" strips and selveges to make one, but that's as far as i got. Maybe next bee at your house you can do a demo! What a great way to use up "why did I buy that??" fabric too!

Hannes' basket is coming along nicely, I think! It looks so pretty. You have convinced me that I'm not up to the task of creating one - I'm too lazy! LOL
I'm in love with that pic of Hannes. My girls sleep on the floor like that, too. So sweet!
