Turkey In The Pine-Straw

Usually at this time of year I post about whatever beautiful, colorful, birds are showing up at our feeders; this isn't that post! Meet Jennie-O (yes, we have named her!). This hen has been hanging around outside my sewing room, foraging under the feeders and annoying Hannes to pieces, for the last week! She makes a huge mess of the pine straw, scratching areas bare in search of whatever birdseed has fallen to the ground. She has destroyed a few bedding geraniums by uprooting them; I have resigned myself to the fact that they're not going to survive and have simply quit the futile act of replanting! I was able to shoot a few photographs through the glass door yesterday before she saw me and ran off toward the woods for the safety of some foliage cover. She may have babies back there, I don't know. It does seem unusual to have a lone Turkey continually hanging here around day after day! But, as long as she decides to return I am enjoying this view. I can't say the same for my frustrated canine companion!

Poor Hannes! No body ever listens to him. First you let the turkeys in the yard and then who knows what comes next!!!

No turkeys here around our Indiana house in town but at our Kentucky country house we see them often. Their path runs through our property it seems and they will feed under our bird feeders as well as in the woods.

How fun to have her to watch! When my parents were living there was a whole flock of wild turkeys that would come up and feed in their back yard. They loved watching them. :) blessings, marlene

Maybe you will have little baby turkeys coming around soon.

No turkeys in our yard - only cardinals and blue jays and doves and about a zillion flavors of sparrows.

Poor Hannes ~ if there really are babies, his frustrations will only increase when they start roaming about with their mom!

Thinking good thoughts for ya'll!!
