Lucky 113!

I bought Alex Anderson's book, Quilts for Fabric Lovers, back in March of 1997. I purchased the book because I loved the cover (who says you can't judge a book by that?) photo, a vintage-looking scrappy postage stamp quilt. I never made that quilt but saw it in person back at the end of March this year, when I attended a lecture and trunk show by Alex herself. When she unfolded that very quilt I fell in love all over again; and decided, then and there, that NOW was the time! In early April I began a morning ritual of piecing one 4.5" basket a day, I needed 113 to recreate my own version of Alex's masterpiece (see below). I reached my goal on Saturday! I still have to piece the nine patches to set these beauties, and applique down their little handles, but I'm well on my way. This pile of blocks is what sheer determination and renewed resolve looks like!

A bit like the tortoise and the hare fable, this is. I, too, like to work in small bites.

Wow, a most impressive stack of basket blocks. I'm sure the quilt they turn into will be just as impressive.

I love this quilt and I tried my hand at a couple of baskets on a table runner but the handles were a challenge to me. I should try again because I have more patience and paper piecing skills now. It is going to be lovely.

Can't wait to see the finished beauty! You are certainly very organized if you can set your goal and get all of those baskets completed. What a great testament to your love of quilting!

Oh my, if the rest are as pretty as that one on top of the pile it is going to be a SPECTACULAR quilt!

Oh, this is going to be a super quilt. Can't wait to see how it goes. I like that strawberry basket quilt that just magically appeared - or did it?

One block a day. A great goal to have each day. It is going to be fabulous when you get it together. I love those little basket blocks.
