Smocking, Revisited!

I'm back at it, smocking revisited... if you will. I signed up for another class, a refresher; it was completely necessary, my old brain couldn't remember one smocking thing I'd learned after I had quilted two quilts and spent a week doing other things. I finished my second sample piece and that pleased me enormously. I really do LOVE the peace that handwork brings, and this is something brand-new to me. I'm brave (or stupid) enough to post my sample and I'm not all that displeased with the result except for the flowerette in the next-to-the-left diamond, it's askew due to the fact that I miscounted when constructing that trellis frame. Ooops; live and learn. I'm on to another project, white smocking on a teeny-tiny white dress for a christening gown. When I saw the pattern with the satin ribbon weaving in and out of the neckline and those minuscule pearl embellishments it was too late, I was already over the edge.

Oh you are way to hard on yourself, your "revisited" smocking looks beautiful! When I find a tiny miscount, I am reminded that only God is Perfect...and that tiny miscount will not be noticed, if only by you! The Christening gown will be beautiful, I am looking forward to pictures (please)! Have a wonderful weekend! Hot in PA again (still)!!

Beautiful sample! I have never tried this craft but have of course admired smocked christening gowns and other cherished handmade items over the years. How lovely to have your very own family heirloom in the near future!
