Giving Thanks!

When I was a little girl this hymn was one of my favorites to sing in church, it still is. I wish you moments of peace today, to reflect on your blessings... that, and pie a la mode!

Life is Good!

We gather together to ask the Lord's blessing;
He chastens and hastens his will to make known;
The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing,
Sing praises to his name: He forgets not his own.

Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining,
Ordaining, maintaining his kingdom divine;
So from the beginning the fight we were winning;
Thou, Lord, wast at our side, All glory be thine!
Amen

--Traditional Thanksgiving Hymn

I woke up this morning with that hymn playing in my head. Hummed it all the while I stuffed Mr. Turkey and am humming it now. The other one that never fails to lift me up is the Shaker song:

" 'Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free,
'Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
'Twill be in the valley of love and delight."

I am thankful that I found your blog because it has enriched my life in so many ways. Many blessings to you and your family.

We sang that hymn at church last night but we had to photocopy it out of a Methodist hymnal...it's not in LBW, ELW or WOV!! Happy Thanksgiving to all of you, my *longest* friend! Enjoy your time with those precious grandchildren. Love and hugs!

That sure brings back some memories for me! I remember singing that when I was a kid. And the Shaker Tune Pat mentions -- my husband plays that one on his hammered dulcimer.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours - you have much to be Thankful for this year with the new grand kids -- enjoy!
