The Cutting Edge

Attention gadget geeks: Santa's on the cutting edge! Just look at what he put in my stocking for Christmas. I hadn't seen one of these before, hadn't read about it , didn't know such a thing existed! This Fiskars fingertip rotary cutter is cute and clever but it won't replace your regular cutter for normal tasks. I leave it out on my cutting table and have been using it for trimming threads and neatening up edges; it is comfortable, easy to use, and provides excellent control. I have also used it with a straight edge, and it performed well. If you get one, and it certainly has it's place in my sewing room, I will caution you about three things:
1. Be careful with the blade cover it's awkward to remove and replace, which could be dangerous.
2. The blade is permanent, making the tool a disposable one when it gets dull.
3. Don't forget you have it on and scratch your nose or adjust your glasses while it is on your finger, YIKES! (I didn't DO this, I'm just saying... it's that comfortable, you could forget that you're wearing it.)

I am so enthralled with new gadgets, but I believe I will have to pass this one up. Being the klutz that I am, I can just see scratch marks all over my place as I try to push my glasses up. I do handwork without my glasses on, and I have to watch as I still try to push them up, even with a needle in my hand!!!

There is one with a replacable blade also. It is found in the scrapbooking area of your local Art & Craft stores.I have 3 of these knifes in various places. Great for cutting stencils, opening packages and the list goes on.

I have a mini cutting station right next to my machine for the purpose of neatening small block edges and trimming doggie ears. Would this work as well as a little 28mm Olfa cutter? BTW, Joann's has your little cutter on sale now (asa well as their other rotary tools): http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/productdetail.jsp?CATID=cat3548&PRODID=xprd955194

Plus free shipping through Friday 1/7 on on-line orders with a minimum of $50. Promotion code at checkout: EVDCX7 I stocked up on blades.

Great little tool. This will be going on my wish list.
I have pen and pencil set with a similar holding design which are great when hands are sore.
