No More Soaps?

At first I wondered why when I heard the news last week; All My Children and One Life To Live were being cancelled. But, after thinking about it, I believe I have the answer: why watch soaps when the headlines in the news are definitely stranger and more sensational than any fiction writer could pen for a soap opera. Zsa Zsa Gabor and her husband would like to have a baby (she is 94) and, if that wasn't enough, you can rent the country of Lichtenstein; yes, you can! Then there's the real, honest to goodness, upcoming royal wedding; Donald Trump talking about a run at the presidency and our nation's air traffic controllers sleeping in their perches while the airplanes land themselves.

Soaps? Who needs them? We have 24 hour news.
Life is Good!

The soaps provided such a great escape from the REAL drama! Anyone remember Dark Shadows?

I would like to hope/think the reason of soaps going away is because at home moms are out in the garden or out playing with kids or taking time for themselves and turning off the tv, but I know it's more like more "real drama" stuff is on during the day to watch. I just turn the tube off and listen to my sewing machine hum :)

Reality has become stranger than fiction. Sad...and a little freaky.

I can remember a LONG time ago, my mother getting "convicted" about watching the soaps because they were so "filthy". :-) That was some 20 years ago! I wonder what she'd think now!? :-) Whatever will they fill the time slots with? Talk shows? Reality shows? All in all we're probably not better off! :-D
Blessings,
Mary Lou

Some days watching the news is not worthy of our time. I think the networks need a reality check. I am looking forward to the royal wedding, however - romantic at heart. Judy C

I used to watch General Hospital the summer I babysat (about 8th grade) Can't say that I have seen one since, so maybe its time for different daytime programing. Still I am sorry for all the older folks who really looked forward each day to their "program" as my Granny Lindig did.

Not to mention the likes of "Jerry Springer" and all the reality shows . . .

My paternal grandmother was so addicted to the soaps, when visiting her house we (adults and children) were not allowed to speak during the afternoon hours when her "shows" were on.

I watched soaps when my kids were babies. Long hours in the afternoon in front of a television (we didn't have cable, the horrors!! :P) with a nursing baby, the soaps kept me entertained.
