"I Think I Can"!

You're familiar with The Little Engine That Could, the children's story explaining how the power of positive thinking and a little extra effort can result in a great accomplishment. Think of this plant as the little geranium that could! It was tossed in the garage last fall after the first frost; seemingly dead, it was neglected and forgotten about all winter long. This spring, when I was potting up other flowers for the patio, I was just about to jerk this one out by it's roots so that I could use the pot for other plants when I noticed some small green growth around the base of one of the stalks. I decided to let it be and trimmed it back, watered it (for the first time in seven months) and set it out in the sunshine. It literally took off; immediately sending out shoots, leaves and flowers, it has been a show-stopper all summer long. I can barely keep the profusion of blossoms pinched back! There's a lesson to be learned here and I'm taking notes. Bloom where you're planted, little geranium!

"I think I can, I think I can" comes the swift and glorious response.

Life is Good!

It's thriving, isn't it? I will have to try that since the geraniums I pot (new) each spring never do as well as your neglected geranium is doing!

Tough little plant! And, well worth the effort to bring it back and give it a change to thrive. A life lesson for sure!

That is amazing - who knew - I think it must have remembered how well it was cared for last year and decided to grace you with all it's spendor for another year. Bet you will try this experiment again - LoL - I know I would, just to see!!! Judy C

What a beautiful plant -- so lush and dense! If you look hard enough, and have an open heart, there are little lessons everywhere.

That plant had high hopes (like the rubber tree plant in the song). There is something to be said for the nurturer, as well. I can't get a geranium to do that even when I purposely care for it over the winter.

My sister taught me that geraniums that winter over are supposed to be bigger and hardier than the ones you buy new each year. I have not had much luck trying to keep them alive. Good for you and the little geranium that could!

Amazing...who would think all that time with no water or sunlight and look at it now!
