Little Christmas

Today marks the Feast of the Epiphany, the official end to the Christmas season. My grandmother always referred to this day, her birthday, as 'Little Christmas'. I always think about her, my Nannie, on this day; she was born in 1903 and lived to be 83 years old. Typically I would be de-decorating our home, packing away the ornaments and the garlands until the first Sunday in Advent; but not today. Today I am doing some packing of a different variety... for a quilt retreat with my Bee group. For me it will be a weekend of hand appliqué, I am not even taking a machine with me! Photos to follow; plus, there's a BIG finish on the not-too-distant horizon...could that be a drum roll I hear?

Merry Little Christmas!

What a sweet memory for a special day. I like that--"Little Christmas".
Oh, enjoy that bee retreat. Glad Bonnie will be able to join you. Wish I had quilting friends who did such things. What fun!
Will keep watch for the big finish!!

Have fun on your retreat. I did that last year on mine - just handwork. I was handquilting a quilt and had an applique and hexie project going. It was nice to not have to load up the machine.

Have fun! My mother was of Russian heritage, and was brought up in the Russian Orthodox church. We NEVER took our decorations down until after Little Christmas, and we usually got some sort of very small present to commemorate the day.

I think I am slipping out early after all...all packed and ready to roll.

My decorations are coming down.....feels late to do it but with the family here, it seemed wrong to de-Christmas too early. I'm ready now to get back to normal. Enjoy your weekend away! Feels like a good time for it, doesn't it?

This year, for the first time in recorded history, our holiday decorations were down and packed away before the end of December.

Enjoy your retreat! You know we'll be here waiting . . . .

I always took the decorations down the day after Christmas because I had that day off from work, therefore I had the time to do it and put the furniture back. Now I leave the tree up until New Year's. Have fun at retreat!
