Let's Meet In The Middle, PLEASE!

I am so tired of trying on pants that don't even come up to my navel. The last three or four pairs that I have purchased have a higher rise but they are still, definitely, lower than I would prefer; and, is it my imagination, or are tops intentionally shorter now too? There's nothing more uncomfortable than feeling cool air on my exposed skin when I try to reach something on a high shelf or when I am blow-drying my hair in the morning and have my arms raised over my head. When I sit on the floor to play with my grandchildren there's nothing more annoying than continually tugging on my top just to cover my back! Is it just me or do you find yourself searching the fine print in clothing ads for where pants sit in relation to the waist and where hems fall in relation to the hip? I've had enough; I am calling for a meeting... one where the waistband of my pants and the hem of my shirt not only get together, but overlap! Either this trend promoting "gap-itis" comes to an end or I will have to design a cute, quilted, cummerbund!

Amen!

Everytime I go to buy jeans I can't find any that are not "hip huggers". My daughter can wear them and be cute, I however can not!

I find myself buying oversize tee shirts in the mens section just so my shirt will be long enough also. :)

I have the opposite problem than you do. I am VERY short waisted from the crotch to the navel, so those low rise jeans fit perfectly, and still cover the belly button up. for YEARS! I had jeans that I had to roll the waist band, or have it under my boobs. I tell my husband this is the short waisted peoples revenge on normal or long waisted people from all that they did to us in the 80's. Back then the waistline would end up in my arm pit!{{{WINK}}}

On a another note, have you ever tried ordering from Land's End??? Their jeans actually come in different waist heights. Just like how people are made.

Oh my goodness have you hit on a real issue! Even my Dad's wife sounds off about this. I have a terrible time myself. If I wear my older jeans - I'm good. This means I have to adjust my weight (hee) which is good - and I'm doing that because gosh, I love my jeans. My older jeans. Not the ones that makes me feel like I have a plumbers situation.

I am SO with you on this!! I'm long-trunked (is that even a word - what I mean is that I'm longer than normal from just under my boobs to crotch) and short-legged. Lands End has jeans (and pants?) that actually fit me ... waist, rise and length. Because I'm long-trunked, I'm still searching for shirts and tops that are long enough without being too low/too immodest up top and that aren't too form fitting --> don't reveal every. single. bulge.

AMEN!!! There has to be a happy medium between jeans made for teenagers and "mom" jeans. I don't want to wear either of those...

(And no, I don't want pajama jeans either! LOL!)

Try being tall and a big girl. It is hard to find clothes without gapitis.

You go girl!!! The buyers seem to only care about designing for all the sweet young things who happen to live in an exposed world. Causes much distress in my world ... and the journey continues to find "relaxed fit, at the waist" pants and shirts without spandex. And, what's with leggings/tights being worn as pants now? We are women, hear us roar. Judy C

You know, there just might be a market for that cummerbund thingy! : )

I was thinking the same thing as I was dressing this morning. Being a tall girl...finding tops that are long enough to stay tucked in ((If I can even get them long enough TO tuck in)) is nearly impossible.

Hate it.

I have been making this complaint for several years now. Who should we complain to? Let me know and I'm with you.

I'll sign the petition too! I've taken to buying 3xl tshirts and then restyling them to fit. I can not wear anything polyester because then my internal static will be worse than it is and I can not find 100% cotton tshirt fabric. Jeans are not a problem 'cause we have a lot of ranch and feed stores that sell levi's that actually fit me and aren't 'granny' jeans.

i'm pretty sure Marcia will want a quilted cummerbund too....

I happen to like the mid rise jeans but finding longer shirts can be difficult, I agree, especially for tall folks like me (5'9). Loose and flowy tunics are in but finding a Tshirt that is long enough after washing (without getting wider!) is a problem. Since I run cold I usually have a collared shirt, jacket or sweater on over the short T shirts to hide the gap!
Cummerbund, huh?

Someone has come up with a rather ingenious solution for pregnant women -- belly bands! They are sofly elastic, worn under your pants/tops, and are meant to bridge that gap as you grow.

At the opposite end of the spectrum is the trend I see a lot in the city where I work -- young men with pants riding so low that the crotch is at their knees. They have to keep one hand on their "waistband" at all times to avoid total droppage.
