Busy As A Bee

Last fall I signed up to take this class, "Bless This House", at a local quilt shop; the first session was earlier this month. Do I have my previous applique projects done? Of course not! Do I have time to squeeze another "big" project into my schedule? No, I don't!! Did either of those reasons stop me? You already know the answer to that question. And sew, I added another "gotta do" project to my busy days... like jello, there's always room for more. "Bless This House" is a block-of-the-month class based on the 1997 pattern (of the same name) by Cheryl S. Kerestes. Don't you love it? Can't you see how it was irresistible? Say "yes"... misery loves company!
Block one, my assignment: the beehive.
I selected fabrics from my stash, including some long-ago, squirreled away, indigos and Dutch  woodblock prints. I believe these will play nicely together in this project. I also unearthed some delicious hand-dyes from Cherrywood fabrics. Here they patiently await their turn at a spin around the washing machine.
Block one: done! I made the executive decision to machine appliqué this time, I couldn't be happier!
I found some leftover bumble bee print in the stash closet too... perfection!

There's border building going on too, I ran short on strip sets and will need to construct more to complete my way around this one. The raging case of "String Fever" shows no signs of  letting up any time soon.

Welcome to my busy days,
stay tuned for more tomorrow...
Life is Good!

This quilt is just beautiful!! It's really fun to see how you personalized your beehive to make it "yours". Love that! Looking forward to seeing the whole year in blocks. Are you making this one for yourself or for a gift, or raffle, or donation? I think I'd have a hard time giving away something this gorgeous and labor-intensive.

Do you talk other quilters into going along with you on this applique project???? Of course you do! And you have your block done! Other quilters better get moving. It looks great.

I thought I was the ONLY crazy quilter around ... seriously! I see all these projects and the word "no" just flies out of my vocabulary. LOVE the applique project but I, too, would have machine finished it. The string quilt looks wonderful. I really like the border a lot. Good job, Mrs. Goodneedle!

It is a beautiful quilt, but I don't applique--machine or otherwise--so it is a no-brainer for me. I love that beehive block. I live next to a "bee garden".
The string quilt is gorgeous with the piano key border.
Look at you go on these projects

Beautiful. I'm sew glad to see I'm not the only one who keeps adding new projects even though I've got more than enough to keep me busy.....

doing machine applique will certainly help you to keep up. It will be fun to watch your progress since I am not doing this BOM.

I'm all for machine applique since that is what I am doing on my Christmas Baltimore quilt. ♥ ♥ ♥ that beeskeep!

How many others will follow you I wonder with the machine applique? It is a very cute pattern and it would be boring to me to only have one project in progress at a time...

Oh gosh the bee block alone is reason enough to take on this project! How cute!!

I will admire this project from afar! It's beautiful, but way beyond my skill level at this point. However, I'm with you on adding new projects. . .

Wow, this looks like a kit I purchased years ago at the Williamsburg show from Touch of Eyelet and forgot about. I'm going to dig in my closet tonight, I think machine applique is a good idea.

The bee skep is too adorable. It's a good thing that class is not available at my LQS.

So you succumbed to the charms of "Bless This House." I have the Touch of Eyelet kit, too, purchased in 1999; templates made, ready to go, but not one stitch taken. I had to laugh when this post went up, because just the day before I thought perhaps now was the time to let the kit go to a new home. Now? Now after seeing your start, I'm thinking that maybe now is the time I make it myself while I watch the progress on yours.
