String Fever

"String Fever" ~ 50" X 67" (before outer borders)

I've set the 35 string blocks together from the workshop I took up at Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival last month. On Thursday it was framed up with narrow (1/4") strips and creamy-colored borders. My intention is to add outer, string-pieced borders to match the interior blocks. I may trim down the creamy inner border, we'll see, it will depend on how "heavy" the outer border reads once it's pieced. It feels good to have this much done. After volunteering as a fanner/holder at our Guild's Quilt Show judging  I came home inspired and motivated to sit down and sew; you could say I had a raging case of String Fever!  I already know how I will quilt this one too, and with which thread! Sundance and I have our work cut out for us. Today is International Quilting Day, how will you commemorate the occasion?

I love the wild, colorful, string-pieced quilts that I have seen on many other blogs, but the simplicity and restraint in this one really speaks to me. It's modern, yet classic. Might be a more masculine quilt? I can't wait to see what you do with the borders and the quilting.

Today will be spent taking out the seams of a dress so that my NEWLY PREGNANT DAUGHTER (3 months!) can fit into it for a bridal shower we are attending later in the day. This evening I plan to work on the wedding quilt for the shower bride's wedding in May. I'm trying something new & can't wait to see how the blocks lay out.

I really love the range of colors on String Fever! It is beautifully scrappy, yet sedate. That tiny inner border is a wonderful accent.
I plan to use all the spare time I can find today to spend with my WIPs.

I went in to my quilt room this weekend and realized how LONG it has been since I've spent any quality time in there. I need to rectify that sooner than later!! Thanks for the "jog". LOVE your string quilt ... I just got a new book on string quilts and am inspired.
