Enough!

It rings, incessantly. The calls come from toll free services and random cell phone numbers in far-flung locales, political action committees, debt and interest rate reduction agencies (really?), some place called "college alert", fund raising groups and so on. I have registered, again and again, with DO NOT CALL; to no avail. Is anyone else plagued by this incessant ringing? As if it wasn't bad enough, now this trend has also infiltrated my cell phone; this annoyance is pervasive, alright already...enough is enough!

I'm with you! We're on the Do Not Call list but it seems that everyone has found a loop hole so they can call...the line last night was, I'm not selling anything, I'm doing market research...Go Away!

If I don't know the number, I don't answer (so if you want to get ahold of me you better call me from a number I recognize). Thank goodness for caller ID!

We're on the Do Not Call list either ... and with cell phones only, I thought we were doubly protected. While thankfully we're not getting political calls, we ARE getting those annoying interest-reduction/credit card calls. Ugh!

That's about all we get on our leone phone. I would be fine with not having one and just using my mobile but GP isn't yet. Thankfully they haven't found my cell yet. I thought registering as an independent would help cut down the political calls but instead it may have doubled them :(

I can't do much about the ringing of the phone but caller ID is so helpful when ignoring calls.

I particularly dislike the "Name Unavailable" calls... I am even getting calls from "no number" even: 1-000-000-0000 numbers.

Don't answer 'em...

It used to work for me, but this year it seems to be open season on "Do Not Call" numbers. I've taken to relying on my caller ID, too. Very annoying!

One time I press the 1 to talk to someone about "lowering my creditcard rate" to tell them not to call any more... she was very polite ant told me to press 3. I had to do it one more than just the one call but eventully "Rachel" quit calling. good luck

Seriously annoying they are.

DH has done some online research to see how to stop them -- it appears to be a lost cause. although one commenter in a forum noted that she keeps her son's BSA whistle next to the phone and when one of the credit card related callers (the worst of the bunch) begins their speil, she blows the whistle. Harsh but effective.

As for me, I answer numbers I recognize (home and cell), all others go to voice mail. If there is no message, there is no call back. If there is a junk message, I hit delete.

Annoying - VERY!

I agree that it is out of control. Before the recent election, our phone was ringing off the hook. Thank goodness for caller ID! We know when the phone only rings 3 times that it is a telemarketer. So far my cell phone has been quiet, but I wouldn't answer unknown callers anyway.

You are not alone here. I make a point of going to the do not call website and logging each and every one of these calls. I think, knock on wood, I've finally gotten rid of the air duct cleaning people.....they haven't bothered me in over a month which is a record. Caller id is a big help.

I have turned off the ringer on the land land so I goes to the machine. On my cell, I have a special ring tone for everyone in my contacts and set the general number to default. If the phone rings with the default # I will look to see who is calling but normally will not answer. It is very aggravating.

Great ideas!

Oh, it is terrible. I like Paula's ideas, though. I never answer at home if I don't know who is calling. So thankful for Caller ID. They haven't found my cell yet.

The No Call List has become a joke! Totally ineffective. I don't even answer our phone anymore unless I'm expecting a call. We don't have Caller ID, so I've had to let friends and family know they'll be talking to the answering machine, or e-mail me.

I gave up my land line many years ago, during an election year. Before i gave it up, i did cut off the ringer, but was upset by some of the messages, so just let it go altogether. I get very few on my cell. Seems to me they must have really gotten bad to raise your ire!

we get 5 or 6 a day from ackron ohio and when you answer there is no one there

I, too, am so tired of "Hi, this is Rachel, from cardholder services..." even though we're registered on the do not call list. We mostly get calls on our landline but now my cell gets calls too. I just use the caller ID but I hate being disturbed by them none-the-less. Judging from the number of comments on this post, these calls are irritating everyone!

I do what Paula does with the special ring tones on the cell. We have a friend who lets everything go to the answering machine on his land line. His message says, is a very professional voice: "You have reached XXX-XXX-XXXX. All of our our operators are busy helping other callers. Please leave a detailed message at the sound of the beep and you c all will be returned in the order in which it was received."

We got rid of the land line months ago and I do not miss it one bit. So far they haven't found my cell but figure it's just a matter of time.

There is some comfort in knowing everyone is irritated by these calls. The person who can come up with a technology that blocks these unwanted calls will become very very rich ! We'll all want it.

Yes, I am so bothered. I finally quit answering my phone. If it is important someone will leave a message.
I got 6 calls in one day from "Rachel" from cardmember services. Boy, I was fuming that they call to interrupt my sewing time.
So now I just wait to see if someone I know actually speaks!
