Living In North Carolina

Andy Griffith and North Carolina are practically synonyms; it's difficult, if not impossible, to talk about one without mentioning the other. Whenever the subject rolls around to The Andy Griffith Show my friends and I always try and choose our favorite episode; that's another task that's nearly impossible, we can go on and on forever remembering... they're all good and they make you feel that same way too. A local channel carries The Andy Griffith Show every day at 5:30 PM; without a doubt, my favorite all-time show is the one entitled "Barney and The Choir",  episode #52. Recalling those good old days of mythical Mayberry is reliving everything that's happy about times gone by. North Carolina is a sadder place today, it's a little bit quieter and Mayberry is an emptier location now that Sheriff Taylor's gone. But, my friends and I will still remember, we'll think back and try to choose our favorite episode; it's all a part of living here.  Andy's gone but he'll never be forgotten; he is a part of North Carolina and the two cannot be separated, around these parts all roads lead to Mayberry.
Rest in peace, Andy~
Life is Good!

A nice tribute. He'll always be here, somewhere between Mount Pilot and Siler City.......

Thanks, for this. I was so sad to hear of his death. We all grew up with him and he made North Carolina a place you just wanted to visit. :-)

Always loved Andy and wanted to visit the Mayberry jail to say howdy to him, ha ha. My favorite episode was when Mr. Darling declared his wish to marry Aunt Bee. I can watch it again and always have a good laugh.
Happy 4th to you!

When I found out that the Darlings were actually a band named The Dillards, I bought an album or two 'cause I loved that style of pickin'. I thank Andy Griffith for fostering my love of bluegrass.

I loved him in Mayberry, but really got hooked on Matlock -- I love me a man in a seersucker suit and an aw shucks "gotcha" ! I kept hoping he and Jessica Fletcher would get together and maybe cook up a down-home BBQ Clam bake.

Amen.
Roger when talking about his senior class play, remembers the night at play practice that Andy came to inspire the cast. Andy sat at the piano and the cast stood around him and listened to what he had to say. The year was 1966. No one in town knew he was home for a visit, but by the end of the evening the auditorium full. Word of mouth in the small town of Mt. Airy was fast.

One of my all time favorite shows is The Andy Griffith Show. I have it all on DVD and when I sit down to sew and just want a happy background I put in a disc and laugh along with the Mayberry gang. Andy is truly an icon of small town America!

I love that episode. I always laugh myself silly. Poor Barney. I think my favorite though is the Christmas episode when mean old Mr. Weaver makes Andy arrest the moonshiner (can't remember his name). So Andy arrests the whole family, deputizes Aunt Bee and Opie and it turns into a big Christmas party in the jail. In the end Mr. Weaver wants to join in the fun but won't say so and Andy arrests him so he can become part of the party.

When I was working in Dare County years ago, I always hoped I'd run into him so I could thank him for being such a big part of my "raising". I never saw him but I'd always wave when I went by road to his home.

Those episodes were always entertaining and the lesson gentle. We kids watched those reruns a lot but I can't say I recall any particular ones! Glad you have such fond memories of the show. Andy's "Make Room for Sergeant" is one of the funniest movies ever.

North Carolina has lost a great ambassador along with Earl Scruggs and Doc Watson this year. It reminds me of Opie lamenting about how empty his bird cage was after releasing winkin blinking and nod. But don't the trees (heavens) seem full.

Aunt Bee was a great cook but could not put up pickles. Andy and Barney made the mistake of complimenting her when they were barely edible. So then she continued to make more. That episode always had me giggling uncontrollably.
And Andy and Earnest T. Bass...good stuff to watch even today.
