Summer! Grab It...

 ...and slow it down! I don't know if you've noticed that this summer seems to be whizzing by, but I sure have. I stood behind a family in the check-out line at Target yesterday who had a cart full of school supplies. Wow! Even though the days are rocketing toward fall the outside temperature is still screaming  hot and steamy SUMMER! I have been making pitchers of coffee concentrate and keeping them in the refrigerator for iced coffee whenever I need a cooling pick-me-up. The recipe is here and, I'll tell you honestly, the concentrate fixed in this manner makes an excellent cup of hot coffee too! I have filled a mug half full of the concentrate and topped it off with water before heating it in the microwave, it is every bit as fresh-tasting as if I had just prepared it. I doubt that my 'fridge will ever be without a jar of this cold-brewed coffee concetrate in it from now on.

On the cleaning and organizing front: I have persevered with my resolution to clean out one thing a week, be it small (a drawer) or large (a closet). For some reason our junk drawer in the kitchen wasn't content occupying space within its own confines and, over time, spread into the drawer next door!
I had been serious about cleaning them both out last week, it was one of those tasks that hung over my head like a dark cloud and seemed so much larger than it actually was.

Here they are: clean, neat and organized... and, after only one hour! What was I waiting for?
 All the more time to enjoy these fast-flying summer days;

grab hold and hang on, it will be gone before we know it.
Life is Good!

I was determined not to have a junk drawer when we moved into our new kitchen 8 years ago. Now I have one--want to come organize it for me? : )

Thank you so much for the iced coffee recipe - very timely. Since my illness, I have been unable to drink hot drinks, but iced coffee sure hits the spot. I also like to take husband's leftover morning coffee and make ice cubes to keep from diluting my ice drink. My junk drawer holds my little treasures - at leat that's what I tell him. Judy C

I've been making cold brewed coffee for a couple years now and LOVE it. As for the junk drawers, seems like every room in house looks like your before picture right now. The Spotted One has become quite stressed by it all and refuses to move off my side of the bed when I head to bed. Since I end up downstairs in the guest room most nights due to my inability to sleep I'm just starting out there now. However a rare storm last night brought 52 lbs of shaking, panting spots, on top of me at 3:00. a.m.!!!!! Want another dog?!?

Oh, there is not doubt with the hot weather that I slow down. It is so funny how a junk drawer gets junkier over time.
Off to see the coffee recipe.

I did some cleaning and purging myself this past weekend. Why do we hang on to stuff, it truly is "just stuff" I'm off to check out the coffee recipe.

I am really trying to enjoy the summer by taking time to read. After a few chores yesterday it was time on the deck with a cold drink and a book. I bought a big outside fan that keeps me "cool" and I can wile away the hours without guilt. Later I put in some sewing time so it felt like a day of great accomplishment.
