Summertime

It's summertime... and the livin' is easy busy! Our nephew and his wife welcomed their baby son last week; his name has been added, at long last, to his quilt top (which has been languishing in the stash closet) and now is next in line for a quilting date with Sundance.  I've also been working on a setting for my Civil War blocks from last year's block of the month sessions. After the central portion was completed (thanks to an idea I found in Sharyn Craig's Setting Solutions) I designed a pieced border, with the help of EQ7, and have been working, in small snatches of time, on getting that pieced and attached. This quilt, named Dixie, will be LARGE when it is finally completed; measuring approximately ninety six inches square! I began a beginning quilt making class, here at the house, last week and have four eager students; three will be piecing their first quilts and one will begin hand quilting a small top that she pieced and appliquéd a few years ago. I have a few other projects simmering right now too, it's summer after all... and the livin' is BUSY!
How are you filling your summer days?

I like the setting you have chosen for Dixie. Sharyn's books are so inspirational.
So good of you to teach beginning quilters. I've had a couple ask if I would do such a thing, but my schedule is already so consumed by family this summer I haven't agreed to it. Can I send them over? : )

Busy yes--quilting, no. I'll bet your beginning class is going to be a lot of fun. There's nothing better than sharing one's love of quilting with bright, eager new beginners.

Orion fits nicely with his big sister's name!

I'm looking forward to seeing that borded on that CW quilt. It's going to be very striking I think!

I am in agony because all my machines, fabric and projects are at our Michigan house while we pack up the Pittsburgh house and finalize the sale. I know it's imminent that I will be living in ONE place soon but I will need to reorganize a complete house as well as a sewing room. I keep reminding myself that winters are long in the North and there will be plenty of time to do lots of these projects but oh, how I ache to just do a little stitching!!
