Tension, A Delicate Balance

If you sew, you know the delicate balance that is required between the top and bottom threads to keep the tension harmonious. It's the same thing with our daily lives. Our schedule, often too crammed-full, is the thread that holds the day together and when the tension gets out of whack our health suffers. Such was the case yesterday; I've been busy, but was staying afloat (surface tension), or so I thought. A headache started building at church while laying out quilt blocks. I drank some coffee, thinking that caffeine would help, but by that point it was like tossing a thimbleful of water on a forest fire... too little, too late. The drive home was excruciating, the sun glinting off the hood of the car might as well have been daggers straight to the brain. The pain took up residence over my eyes as illustrated above, and held on; aspirin, ice water, and a dark and quiet room in which to rest were my weapons against the unwanted boarder. Today is a better day, there is a dull ache in the back of my neck to remind me of my head's former tenant but I can manage and get some things done, although I have adopted a somewhat slower pace, I'll be back to full strength soon. Take it from me, balance your daily schedule as though you were adjusting your sewing machine. You can't keep tightening up in one area without making an allowance elsewhere; something will snap... believe me, it's all about give and take.  I'll return, I have LOTS of show and tell from this past week, and it's all good!

Oh, dear. Feel better! I had a terrible tension headache a couple of weeks ago, the first one in years. It was on the jury day, so it was understandable.

OUCH! I used to get headaches like that ALL THE TIME. I feel for you. Remember to take it easy...it could be lurking ready to pounce again!

Hope the worst is over...ramp back up slowly. Luckily mine have never gotten so bad that three Advil wont knock them out. I have tried to evaluate triggers: dehydration, eye strain, stress and sometimes all mixed together. Take it easy Mrs G

Glad things have improved today. Those tension headaches are bears! Words of wisdom for us all about finding balance. I needed that reminder. : )

Sorry to hear it got you down. Shirley had a head massage the other day and it got rid of hers. But yes, take it easy and slow down a little!

I was worried about you ... sorry to hear about your headache. Almost sounds like a migraine. Rest and take care of yourself ... best "medicine" of all!

Oh yeah! I know what you are referring to. Take care, I hope the relief comes soon! Balance is also something I have been trying to manage lately, I find myself being too hard on myself, imagine that?:!:)

The only thing that helps, for me, with that kind of headache is Advil, taken early. For that reason I carry it at all times since one never knows what will kick it off. Interestingly, since retirement I have had very few of those headaches. ;-)

you just described my day yesterday. I trust you are listening to your body and relaxing. My tensions are slowly getting better now that the stresses that have caused them are getting resolved. Construction loan misinformation, real estate challenges and everything from the last 4 months all came to a crashing head, quite literally in my head.

I hope you are feeling better today. Yes we all need to slow down at times and take things carefully.

Sometimes, God kicks us in the pants (or head!) to make us slow down and ease up. Looks like you got His message. ;-) Glad you're feeling better, and taking things a bit slower. :-) Looking forward to hearing about the events of the last week.
