The Power Of Persuasion

It all started innocently enough; I was doing well staying on task and adhering to my  Christmas "to do" lists; I never saw it coming. I was blindsided by this folded fabric star and powerless to fight off the urge to drop everything and make one. Call it the power of persuasion, the strength of suggestion or the danger of distraction; whatever it was, it attacked me. Last week, while attending my monthly applique workshop a fellow student pulled two of these stars out of her bag for "show and tell"; another class member offered a website with this online tutorial, that's all it took. I am weak; I plan to work on my resolve, later. This is now hanging on my tree! (I substituted fabric strips, bonded to poster board, for the book pages in the above referenced tutorial. My strips are 1/2" wide and 7" in length.)
Our instructor then showed this incredibly gorgeous Wandering Foot quilt,
hand appliqued and hand quilted! This time I had to hold onto the table top in front of me,
I was swooning. "No, no, no" I told myself. "It can wait!"
It will have to wait, I've already veered too far from the path and am losing all focus.
I did look up this pattern for it though, there was satisfaction in doing that much... for now!
Life is Good!

That's the problem with creativity, that in our head we are so in advance, right? :o)

Now you've done it! I am trying to hold the focus. It is really cool. I held off from joining the block of the month on the quilt show all year, but however, I finally got drawn in. Now, I have this in different stages and me with little time to sew. What will they do with all the ufo's they find?

The star ornament is gorgeous; the fabrics you used are so vibrant. And that quilt---oh my goodness, be still my galloping heart...This may have to go on the top of the list for 2013.

What a pretty ornament. I will not even click on the tutorial--I know how weak I am!
That is a gorgeous quilt. Good idea to hold off on that one for now. : )

I love this star and it is definitely much prettier in fabric than paper. Good thing we are not having a tree this year.....

What a pretty ornament. There are just way too many wonderful quilts to be made.

Thank you for looking up the pattern---it will save me soooo much time!!! The ornaments are still on my to-do list with the other two variations! Yours look so great! I know when I'm gone they'll find lots of UFO's but they'll know I was happy doing what I do.

OK ... I'm hooked ... on all of it! Question: Did you use two coordinating fabrics for your ornament and use a fusible sheet between the two wrong sides to hold them together before you cut apart? If not, do you think that would work?? I'm having visions of making this all year long with Christmas fabrics and the tree next year just covered in them....SEE what you've started??? LOL

Your star is gorgeous. It would be pretty to have just those stars on the tree made from your stash fabrics. Good thing I'm not involved with the festival of trees where I lived 20 years ago.
Merry Christmas

Distraction is good for the soul (and we all need some of that from time to time).

Gorgeous!!

Love your star! I actually ordered the pattern from Keepsakes (if I'd just read your post earlier... and followed the link). But it arrived AFTER Christmas so this will be a next year project! Yours is beautiful!
