It's The Little Things...

I cleaned out the Bluebird house the other day, I was well aware that it had recently been occupied by a familly of Black-Capped Chickadees. Apparently, they didn't all make it. Long-since fledged, they left half of their eggs unhatched. This is sad, I don't have any idea why only three of the six eggs hatched, but this is what was left behind. I cleaned out the house and it's ready for it's newest occupants. Can you believe how TINY these eggs are? Right now we have 6 Carolina Wren eggs in a miniscule nest nestled down in the Boston Fern on our side porch, I'll keep you posted on the progress; it's these little things that eggs-cite me!

Watching baby birds is a joy! Unfortunately my babies on my patio I watched morning and night , the nest was attacked right before they were ready to fly.

We love watching the birds in our yard ... haven't found any nests this spring/summer however ... perhaps I need another "tour" around the yard ;-) I agree with you that it is the simple things that are so wonderful!

How sad to see the three "leftover" eggs.
We have a nest of swallows on top of our yard light just outside our family room window each year. They have nested again and we are awaiting the hatching. It is too high to see in, but when the babies start begging for food we can see their little heads stretched up waiting, and observe the feeding process when the parents return. We had a robin nesting under our deck, but found it dead in the yard recently. They fly into our solarium windows sometimes, mistakenly thinking that because they see sky through it, they can fly through it. : (

Tiny indeed. In addition to the usual feathered friends, we have FOUR bright yellow goldfinches this year. They radiate JOY !

These aren't the next brood maybe? Our bluebirds are on to their second brood. Just a thought. :-)
