Something To Take To Phoebe White's Party

Have any of you ever heard of Phoebe White's party? When I was a little girl I remember my parents, as well as my grandparents, breaking the news gently to me at bedtime that it was "time to go to Phoebe White's party"!  This was the signal for brushing teeth and crawling into bed for the night. Phoebe White's party was sleeping. I've researched the term and come up short, maybe it was only used in my own family, I don't know. I bought some fabric on Thursday while on a quick shopping trip with my sidekick, Quiltkeemosabe, for pillowcases for Lucy Ann. I had a few travel-sized pillows in the cabinet and thought that she'd enjoy a few pillowcases in her favorite colors. (What little girl doesn't love pink and purple?) My plan was to make them for her, embroider her name on the cuffs and slip them to her sometime during her brother's  up-and-coming birthday party so that she wouldn't feel too left out; I have a few weeks. But then, things happen and an abrupt fall into the coffee table at her house sent her to the hospital last evening, she came home with four stitches above her eyebrow. I could just cry thinking about her going through this; SEW... I got busy! Pillowcase #1 was finished and boxed up (with the pillow) and is winging its way to her in the Capital City right now. She can take it with her to Phoebe White's party, she'll need it as she rests and heals.

Life is Good!

Ouch - we had two similar trips to get stitches after unexpected falls. Harder of the grownups than the little ones except they go ahead and let the tears fall. Love the phrase - love it.

That is a new phrase to me, too, but I like it. : )
Poor little Lucy Ann! What a thoughtful grandma to send her love and well wishes made by her own caring hands.
(BTW, I had a little girl that didn't like pink and purple--sometimes it was really hard to find things for a little girl in colors she liked...black, blue, burgandy!)

A new saying to me too, but how lovely, a wonderful way to let children know it's time for bed. Hope the injuries mend soon.

Hope Lucy Ann heals quickly. The pillow will help.

When I was growing up my parents and grandparents used that phrase only they said "Lily White's" party. It meant the same thing and was not something we wanted to hear!

Just did some research and found this site complete with the poem the phrase "Lily White's party" came from. Here's the site: http://www.gratefulprayerthankfulheart.com/2013/01/lily-whites-party.html

Must be something in the air. My grandson had a fall and a trip to emergency care yesterday. He cracked bone in his arm in a fall. Could have been worse. Hope these grands stay whole and hearty from now on.

What a lovely idea and this pillowcase is beautiful. I still have a white cotton pillowcase that my Mother embroidered for me with a hippo!

coffee tables are not allowed around here - i covered mine with a quilt till my kids were all kindergarteners or older - and now i don't have one at all because THOSE kids had kids of their own and i can't bear the thought of one of them smashing into it - too many stitches and too many tears
