By Wisdom...

... a House is Built. Through perseverance a quilt is finished!
I've been working on this one for twenty years, off and on (more off than on!). Last evening I finished putting in that last quilting stitch; so, it isn't truly quite finished yet, it still needs binding, but having this one off the frame sure feels good! The finished quilt, assembled as shown, measures 60" X 63". As soon as I got it off the frame I took the picture. Once it is bound and labeled I will take an official beauty shot.
The original pattern by Indygo Junction was available in twelve individual monthly booklets, these can either be done individually and bound one by one, or set all together as I chose to do. I bought the entire set at a precious little quilt shop in Georgetown, MA back in 1999, after I saw their version done and hanging in the shop, I loved it. It was a great shop, sadly, that shop is no longer in existence.
I changed the design a bit, using a more refined font instead of the primitive one provided and set the embroidered blocks into strips rather than using torn, raw edges on top of a background piece. I also used black thread and a small buttonhole stitch by machine to cover all of the raw edges on the fused applique. However, over all, even with the changes the basic design is the same.
Here is the cover of the May booklet, you can see the differences in my version and the pattern version. If you're interested in making this quilt I am giving away my pattern set now that I am done.
I am offering the entire set, shown here; this Folk Block of the month designed by Sarah Sporrer if you would like to have it. All you need to do is leave a comment* and tell me which month of the year is your favorite and why. I will draw a lucky winner one week from today. Good luck. To get you started: my favorite month is September, it is my birthday month and I just love the feel of the change of seasons, the days begin to cool and shorten. Good luck!

Life is Good!

*If you leave a comment make sure that it is attached to an email address so that I can reach you and get your mailing address for shipping purposes. If I can't reach you I will need to redraw.

September is my birthday month and the start of Fall. I loved school and getting my supplies and birthday gifts. Thanks for a chance at your giveaway. Your quilt turned out wonderfully.

It's hard to choose a favorite month, there is something (or someone special) to celebrate each one. I would have to say November, for Thanksgiving and the beginning of the winter/Christmas/spate of family birthday celebrations! This is a such a sweet pattern, I can see making individual blocks as center medallions for small quilts to be given to Mennonite Disaster Services which presents a quilt to the family of each home they repair/rebuild after natural disasters.

Beautiful -- please do not enter me in your drawing as I do NOT need another long term project . . . but my favorite month is also September (my birthday, our oldest son's birthday, the overabundance of school supplies in the stores with good sale prices, and the beginnings of the end of the long hot Memphis summers)

I bought this pattern set around that time, too; after about ten years I gave it away to someone who promised she would make it. I am really glad you made it -- it is beautiful. Don't put me in your drawing, but my favorite month is April -- it speaks of renewal.

This quilt lokks impressive! My favourite month is December as its my birthday month but also as the beginning of summer (New Zealand)and school holidays. I recently saw this quilt at a homeschooling mum's retreat and admired it. It's a lovely way to combine a hobby and biblical truths.

Your quilt and your quilting is lovely and well done to staying with that quilt (getting back to it?) I think I'll bow out of the drawing too for the same reasons as many of the above (though I am soooo tempted!) I would say my favorite month of the year is November as it is crisp and cold outside, the leaves are falling or fallen and there is the contentment of looking forward to winter nights of quilting and knitting!

Adore these blocks. Have always liked house blocks but with the added quotes these become extra special. My fingers are crossed. Blingquilts@gmail.com

What a wonderful quilt! You must have so many memories of your time working on it stitched into it. I’m going to pass on the drawing as I can’t take on another large project, but my favorite block is August. That’s the month we were married and the verse on this block was the basis for the pastor’s message at the wedding.

Favorite month for me would be July. Love the red, white and blue decorations and for our family it is a great month to be together to celebrate anniversaries, birthdays, and the 4th.

This is such a beautiful quilt--I can imagine what joy there is in finally completing it.
I don't need the patterns--I know I would never get it made, but I will say my favorite month is probably November. It is my birthday month, my allergy season is usually over by then (Fall is my worst season of allergies, though I love fall), we get to celebrate Thanksgiving, which is a wonderful holiday that focuses us on our blessings--and we finish up the month ushering in Christmas with the lights and music and spirit of love and giving.

Love the quilt. My favourite month is January. It is my birthday month and it always is the start of new beginnings. I may not always carry through with my good intentions but it always feels good to try again 😉
