18 January, 2008

It's me, Hannes. Can we talk? I'm perplexed. I heard that the American Kennel Club announced the top ten dog breeds for last year. The Doxies came in at number SEVEN. Can you believe that? Frankly, I'm insulted. Since it's an election year, I'm campaigning to be top breed for 2008. I won't sink to name-calling or mud-slinging, I'm running on my own merits. I'm a great watch dog, pound for pound you simply cannot find better protection for your property. I am loyal and a very snuggly lap dog. I'm not a finicky eater at all. I can find every toy in the house with a squeaker in it at warp speed. I'm really very good at kitty locating and chasing, too. I am convinced that I deserve a higher ranking than seventh. If you'll support me in my efforts please leave a comment. Do it for Dachshunds everywhere, you know it's the right thing to do; to know me is to love me. I humbly thank you.

Here are the AKC's top 10 dog breeds for 2007:
1. Labrador Retriever
2. Yorkshire Terrier
3. German Shepherd
4. Golden Retriever
5. Beagle
6. Boxer
7. Dachshund
8. Poodle
9. Shih Tzu
10. Bulldog

Hannes, I feel your pain. I couldn't let Shelby see your post. She would be distraught to see she's at #9. Maybe you could be running mates and show those big hounds what being the real top dogs is all about!

Well -- I do like some of those other breeds. You can take comfort that you came in before Shih Tzus though. But, you might be right -- you may have been robbed!

Hannes, take what you get! I'm not even ranked!?!?! I'm a lowly working dog. Some dog have to work for a living. I don't have time to sit on laps.

The use of the word "frankly" by a hot dog dog made me chuckle.

I think you will need to work pretty hard to strip Diesel of her honor...

What about us pound puppies? My mom rescued me from the 'Puppy Prison.' She tells me every day that I'm the best. Don't rely on lists to value your worth - now go find something squeaky and remind everyone that you are there *woof*

We feel your pain Hannes. Miniature Schnauzers didn't even make the list......

I admit that you are handsome and I can see what you mean for pound for pound. I say put in a vote for us mixed breeds! We're pretty healthy, there's a surprise in every package and there are sooooo many of us! We definitely outnumber everyone else!

Oh little h...I think that you personally should start traveling the country and campaigning! Once the people meet you they will know who needs to be #1!

I am Rusty, and I am with you, Hannes. Why, I only ranked number EIGHT! Can you beat that? It is an outrage, just an outrage...everyone knows I am a champion!

I definitely feel your pain, Hannes! I too, think dachshunds should be at the TOP of the list! My girls were very upset when they read that list, too!! This calls for a doxie uprising!!!!
