What Is It?

Can you guess what this is? It was handed to me last evening at church before the beginning of our mid-week Lenten service, a gift from the gentleman who sits in the pew in front of us every week. He and Mr. Goodneedle are both woodturners and share lots of great project information with one another. Go ahead and take a guess before you scroll down. I'll give you a hint: I couldn't carry this onto an airplane.

Isn't this cool? Did you guess a double-barrel seam ripper?
Or, as I like to think of this: a quilter's version of the Swiss Army Knife!

    Now I want to know how he got the color on the wood. There is a woodworker around here who specializes in using aspen. He injects dyes into the trees so it goes throughout the wood. The smaller branches have more color than the bole of the tree. You should see some of the salad bowls he makes. Is that how the color came to be on this?

    I have a lovely wooden two ended one made by one of husbands of a fellow quilter. It is a fabulous tool and I love that it had two different sized seam rippers in it.
    I wonder how your carver made it so colorful. Mine is lovely but not quite as colorful- different kind of beauty..

    Jim used a piece of acrylic he ordered from a company that specializes in wood turning supplies to make this seam ripper. This lovely color combo is "Lady's Pink Crush." I am proud of my husband for making this for Mrs. Goodneedle and for me. Of course, I have one too!
