Going Home

In the last two days I've been to my hometown in Massachusetts, and back; it's been a whirlwind. My Uncle died and his funeral and burial were on Tuesday. Going home, for me, always has a profound effect. I hugged many people that day, faces from my distant past as well as the present; people who are part of my life either directly or through my Uncle. I went back home; it's precisely where I needed to be to put his passing into perspective. My Uncle has gone home now too. This text reflects my current feelings and expresses, so clearly and beautifully, the divine comfort associated with going home... His home that awaits us all.

Going home, going home
I'm just going home
Quiet light, some still day
I'm just going home
It's not far, just close by
Through an open door
Work all done, care laid by
Going to fear no more
Mother's there expecting me
Father's waiting, too
Lots of folk gathered there
All the friends I knew
All the friends I knew
I'm going home
Nothing's lost, all's gain
No more fret nor pain
No more stumbling on the way
No more longing for the day
Going to roam no more
Morning star lights the way
Restless dream all done
Shadows gone, break of day
Real life begun
There's no break, there's no end
Just a living on
Wide awake with a smile
Going on and on
Going home, going home
I'm just going home
It's not far, just close by
Through an open door
I am going home
I'm just going home.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Home does something to your heart just at the sound of the word. One of my daughter's once told a friend that home to her was "wherever my Mama and her stuff is." Now that my own mother is gone it's a strange feeling not to have that place where Mama is, except in my dreams. blessings, marlene
