Where, Oh Where?

I grocery shopped last Thursday, I had vanilla extract on my shopping list and bought a bottle, I know I did. Where in the world did I put it when I got home? It's one of life's great mysteries! I had all the ingredients assembled to bake a pound cake yesterday. The butter was softened and the five eggs had reached room temperature; I looked for the vanilla, the space where I keep it in on the carousel was empty. Huh? I turned the kitchen upside down. I rummaged through the pantry, not once, but twice. OK, I'll admit it, I even looked in the refrigerator! No vanilla. Strange. I found my grocery receipt. It was on there... as odd as this may sound I was relieved to see the proof of purchase even though it still didn't help in the cake baking process. My husband came to the rescue and stopped at the store for me on his way home from work. He brought me TWO bottles! In case I misplace another one? Maybe, he knows me. He asked me if I'd searched my car. I hadn't done that, but it was a good idea; even though I didn't find the vanilla there I did locate my umbrella and discovered an extension cord that I'd taken with me to church a while ago. During all of this searching I was reminded of the time I found a brick of cheese in the trunk of my car that had escaped from a slippery grocery bag weeks earlier, but that's another story for another day! While I was entertaining my Bee last evening I happened upon a long-lost spool of blue thread on the floor of my stash closet! The cat had been chasing it, well over a month ago, and after she'd tired of that game I never could find that thread again. I had finally stopped hunting for it and replaced the spool when I was out shopping one day. Perhaps that's the best policy to adopt with the vanilla, now that I have two bottles. Let it turn up on its own; clearly, it's not ready to reveal itself just yet.

Life is Good!

Yeah, I swear that has happened to me too. Probably the person in front of you wound up with it in their bag. Or maybe it got hidden underneath something, and the person behind you wound up with it. You can't have too much vanilla so two bottles sounds good to me.

I find myself leaving things in odd places with some regularity these days. I just lost a package of cheesecloth the other day. Maybe we should keep a notebook of the 'amusing' places we find our 'lost' items *s*

I bought the cutest buttons once. I know I did because there's a picture of them on my blog, but they disappeared and I never did find them. If they show up it will be a miracle because I moved. LOL Good luck with the vanilla. :)

I lost an acorn squash the other day, but I can't blame the cat.

OK, OK, I must confess, I lost my PJ'S...........Yep, Am sure I left them the very first night ( on this trip) in Ga, at the motel........I hung them on the back of the bathroom door when I took my shower, then when I got dressed I must have just left them there...Packed the rest of my things and off we went..
Al least that is what I think happened, cause I can NOT imagine loosing my PJ's any other way!!
Where are my brains???????J

I think you April "fooled" yourself! LOL! I don't know how many times I have "lost" things recently! I'll be doing something else, and voila! there is the thing I had been looking for earlier! Maybe the cat was playing with it...... tee hee!

I did the same thing with parmesan cheese. Now I have three - the one I bought and lost, the replacement and the one I forgot was in the pantry.

I used to love changing the furniture around. And the contents of the kitchen cupboards. But as I've aged I have realized that I kept going to the same spot for something. I have stopped doing all that moving. And you know what? I have a lot more time for quilting!

I made pound cake last week and had to use almond extract instead of vanilla (and used 1/2 cup of plain yogurt mixed with 1/2 cup of sour cream because I didn't have enough sour cream!). In the end - it all turned out delicious! Glad to hear that you have lots of vanilla now though!!! Your DH must really love your cake!

Cheers!

Such a familiar scenario! Where do these things hide!! When they do turn up, it is like they are thumbing their nose at us! LOL.

I did this once with a pound of hamburger (slipped out of the bag in the back of my car)! Eeewww ... talk about yucky when I found it a few days later ... in the Summer, of course!

Hope you come across your vanilla when you need it most!
