Piece Out!
It's hot outdoors. I'm not there. I'm inside, piecing out. I'm assembling a back for "Mealtime Mantra" from all the leftover fruits and veggies. I had planned all along to find a splendid backing fabric with an all-over fresh food print and not piece the back. That was then, before I saw a few back-to-back episodes of TLC's Hoarding: Buried Alive. I had all the scraps from the front piled in a neat little stack in my stash closet. Why was I saving them? I'm not anymore. I can't risk becoming that person who is buried alive by their possessions (even if it is fabric... what a way to go!). I'm happy with my decision. I'm conserving fuel, and money too, I didn't need to go shopping to find that perfect piece for the back; I'm creating it. Slicing and dicing those leftover fruits and vegetables one more time, before joining them together; I'm beating the heat. I'm inside, piecing out!

I loved this quilt when you first shared it. And the idea of a vegetable soup backing is perfect!
Excellent plan to use up the scraps on the back. Oh my gosh, that Buried Alive show can certainly give one second thoughts on shopping.
Great Strategy, I have a lot of small flannels and homespuns that I think I might piece for the back of Dad's birthday quilt. Great Plan to stay inside.
ROFL Randy secretly thinks I'm one of those hoarders that will die smothered to death under fabric and wool and books and magazines and and and ROF
Good for you ... I love pieced backs!
Every time I piece a back I enjoy it just a little bit more. It is such a happy way to finish a quilt and add a little more interest.
I love a pieced back especially if I'm not hand quilting it!
that's the way to cut into that stash.
I love pieced backs too. I was thinking "salad" but I like NNP's "vegetable soup"!
That sounds like a wonderful plan. I am trying to use up my fabric too, and avoiding buying new until there is more room for it.
I have never seen the hoarding show, but I really must - I hear so many comments about it. I think pieced backings are always great, but oddly enough, I have never done one.
