The Dress Takes Shape!

I'm new to smocking. I'm new to heirloom sewing. Why, then, did I tell my daughter that I would make Lucy Ann's christening dress? Some days I border on insanity, that's why! It's done, the details follow. Now... on to the slip, I need to make that too, and embroider it, by hand! Seriously.

It is really beautiful! You did such a great job. I know your daughter will cherish it. Just think, one day your granddaughter's child could be wearing it too.

Very beautiful, I love the scallop around the bottom. But come on...embroidery on the slip...will it show? Yep you have created a family heirloom for sure.

It's beautiful, as is ALL the work you do. DD and GD will love it and keep it for years to come. Not many GD can say my Nana made this for me.

You are soo brave!!! :-D I'm just not sure if insanity and courage are a good combination! LOL The gown is just lovely, though.

I have to laugh...Not only will it be an heirloom; someday, if the Lord lets time continue, someone will pick it up at an estate sale and hang it on a peg in their country decor! Fabulous!! :-D
I'm loving it!
Blessings,
Mary Lou

This is just beautiful! You do such wonderful work and what a sense of satisfaction you must have!! My Mom made Mandy's christening gown and then it was worn by my sister's two daughters after that. I keep thinking I should embroider all their names and christening dates on the under slip, but I haven't done that yet. One day I hope a granddaughter might wear it. So, think, your beautiful creation may become an heirloom in your family when Lucy Ann's granddaughter wears it. :-)

Gorgeous - What a wonderful gift.
I made a christening dress with a coat and hat when my first neice was born. I made it from the material from my wedding gown and when my grandaughter my sister passed it back to me. My grandaughter is 17 now, so I have hope of seeing it passed to her children.
I read your blog daily but don't comment so if I don't "speak" with you the happiest of holidays to you and yours.

aren't you glad you didn't have to make two! :)

LA2's dress is perfect! It is hard to believe it will only be worn by her once. Maybe future LA's will wear it!

Beautiful. Grandmothers have a hard time saying no. As you well know, this won't last long. Aren't you glad that you can enjoy the ride?

how lovely!!! I really love the look of hand smocked clothes for children.
looking at it I really want to take up smocking again. It's been way too long since I've done it, but my chipmunks deserve some fancy clothes like that! :D

Always lovely to see what your needle is up to!
