Life Before...

I found recently found this before photo... (American Gothic, minus the pitch fork.)

...before we were married...
...before we were parents...
...before I made quilts...

Whatever did we DO
way back then?

Life is Good!

The photo is dated June 15, 1974.
We were visiting my husband's aunt and uncle on their farm, this was taken just before their daughter's wedding.
I remember making this dress, it was long (floor length) tan and pink voile, fully lined. Wow.

You were, and always will be, a handsome couple. The dress is beautiful, and your husband (beau) is rockin' that tie!

I'm sure the dress is lovely, but OH! those lapels!

You need to put this picture beside a picture of the two of you from a wedding that occurred 30 years later!

I remember that couple!! :-) This was two weeks before I got married....such a long time ago. Curious though....your Honey looks like he's wearing his wedding ring. I do love the dress! :-)

I see you in that girl!

You have good bone structure so you haven't changed significantly since then. What I love about photos this old is the 'untried' look most of us have - an open and innocent approach to life before the years showed us a few obstacles. It's a lovely photo.

What a good-looking pair!

Great photo! I love that you recall the dress so well :) It's funny how long dresses cycle back around again in popularity!

I like long dresses, always have. Back in the year of this photo, I wore those skirts made by opening a pair of jeans along the inseam and then inserting a gusset. I had quite a cottage industry going, because all my friends would bring their jeans around for me to make into skirts. Fun!

Your then boyfriend has Justin Beiber hair. Funny how things come around. Can you believe how much work we put into sewing clothes back then? I remember staying up late at night to make an outfit for the next day.

Ditto on all of the comments about the two of you.

My eye jumped to the 'wonderful' old building behind you. The walls look less than sturdy but ... look at the roof! Typical of old buildings here as well. The wind wouldn't blow it over because there was air flow thru the building!

just 11 days before I was born! Beautiful dress. I can even make an apron or tote bag with out messing it up. My mom would be so disappointed b/c she won every 4H contest there was when it came to dress making.

Love from Indiana! ~bonnie

Funny how we "all" see different things in your picture. I graduated that year... a couple days b/4 it was taken... he looks somewhat like my DH whom I was to meet the next year in Japan! Wide lapels, thick longer hair (although my DH didn't have longer hair until "after" we got out of the Navy a few years later) and then I got married in a hmmmm was it a GunnySac Dress! I still have it! I suppose it might be worth something now again! Good memories!
