Sad News From The Treasure House And Other Updates

This archive photo is dated 1979.
I grew up watching Captain Kangaroo, Mr. Green Jeans and Dancing Bear in the Treasure House,  I loved every minute of  it! Sadly, I learned that
actor Cosmo Allegretti passed away last month in Arizona at 86. He was working as a set painter on a brand new kid’s show when the producer decided he didn’t like a particular puppet. So Cosmo volunteered to fill in. And that’s how Bunny Rabbit and Mister Moose and Grandfather Clock and so many other beloved “Captain Kangaroo” characters were born. Cosmo Allegretti was every one of them. He was also known as character Dennis the Painter on Captain Kangaroo.  What happy memories I have, to this day, of eating cereal while sitting on the living room floor, cross-legged, in front of our large console TV! And, speaking of television sets:
Life is Good!

Those are such good memories...watched Captain Kangaroo every day. Love your new TV but my suspect is you won't get as many years out of it as the old RCA...just don't make things like they used to...now I sound like my mom...LOL!

Have not heard of that TV show, but maybe I should have as kangaroos are very Australian! Don't watch very much TV these days.

Was not able to watch every day, but I remember the captain and his crew very well.
That sleek new TV is a fine addition to your "updates", but I think you already know what the outcome will be. : )

I, too, grew up watching Captain Kangaroo only it was on a little black & white tv not much bigger than the one that resided on your counter for so many years.....

Why am I not surprised at the "sitting cross-legged on the floor eating cereal" phrase? I was doing the same thing . . .

I cannot count the number of times I heard my mother tell my brother and I "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all" or sing "It's another be good to Mommy Day!" She even passed those pearls of wisdom on to my three children as they were growing up! I wish today's children could enjoy the innocence of that show.

I grew up watching the Captain as well, and can still hear those keys jangle. When I graduated from college, Bucknell University gave Bob Keeshan a special citation. When he appeared on the stage with our president, he greeted us with "Good Morning, Class." Without hesitating, we responded in unison, "Good Morning, Captain!" Such a happy memory. Thank you for the news about Cosmo. I'll offer a toast and prayer this evening for that fine gentleman.
